There is a subtle difference though: 'I Am Bound' and 'I'm Bound' and this is the way they are sung. Will try and find that tape and hopefully post it.
No Rob this is a different song altogether, written by Smokey, and a 'pop' record rather than gospel. The acetate is in very rough condition and can't be played without skipping every few seconds. A...
I have this acetate. Although date stamped 1965 the recording dates to 1961 as listed by Keith Hughes in DFTMC. His name is spelt incorrectly too!
20274
It was released in stereo on MS617 but it's very hard to find. It doesn't have 'Stereo' emblazoned on the cover so it's easy to miss. The Motown reissue on M5-167V1 is in stereo.
Thank you John G Stump for giving us a Career overview of Tony, he was one of the best live performers I have ever seen. His style was incompatible with the Motown sound for some reason.
I thought the re-recordings were superb. It was an interesting decision to include these non-motown hit songs.
I found the most difficult USA mono album to find was 'United' by Marvin & Tammi.
Could you send it to auction perhaps? A specialist music or entertainment auction house would surely be interested.
Where would we be without this wonderful source to refer to? I am so sorry to read in the acknowledgements that Keith Hughes brother passed away in March. He had been mentioned as a source of support...
That sort of response is the reason I rarely participate in this forum anymore.
More Contours for me - I love their energy and rough edges of the early recordings.
The awful discordant jangly mess that is 'Live Wire' should never have got out.
This is a nice imaginative release, I haven't bought any vinyl for a long time but I might buy this.
Barbara McNair - Baby a go go
Temptations - Come back my love
Monitors - Crying in the night
Velvelettes - Let love live
Marvelettes - Boy from Crosstown
Don't hold your breath! I don't know what the problem is with Universal but they are making buying music as difficult as possible.
I think we have all been led up the garden path with this release.
My copy arrived from Ace today. I haven't played it yet but when looking through the booklet my eyes nearly popped out of my head at the sight of Liz Lands in her swimsuit! There's no way she could...
Count me in too!
Here are my top 10 US albums:
Four Tops- Second album
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell- You're all I need
Isley Brothers- This old heart of mine
Tammi Terrell- Irresistible
Martha & the Vandellas-...
Here is a copy of the label for an acetate containing many of these tracks that appeared on the collectors market many years ago.
I'm really enjoying this release especially the tracks by Edwin Starr, Bruce Channel and Shorty Long. However I'm a bit bemused by the notes on the Four Tops track that state there is no evidence...
'In Loving Memory' in Stereo !
It certainly looks like Martha & the Vandellas to me.
Yes it's the same Mick Critchley who ran the Martha & Vandellas fan club. Raymond Cutkelvin passed away a few years ago unfortunately but I received an email from Mick just a couple of months ago and...
