It's a good job that Avery, Chante and Tank were there as Babyface really does have a weedy voice. He's undeniably a very good songwriter...
JTTSLOP has some of Stevie's most underrated songs in my opinion, such as Power Flower, The Secret Life Of Plants, Come Back As A Flower, Send One Your Love & Outside My Window.
I'll Wait For You...
They tower over these last two albums by comparison, with truly inspired songwriting and production.
She's gone down a more generic route on her last two albums. I miss the more quirky Emily of "Seven" and "The Switch" days...
I haven't! What kind of differences are there?
Interesting re the Radioplay albums - I'd love to know if any of the Stevie tracks on them were alternate mixes/takes.
Some great choices here - "I'd Be A Fool Right Now" is one of my favourite Stevie cuts.
It is indeed dreadful. And nobody deploys "autotune" vocal effects like that anymore.
I think Ed's lucky to have won it. The second chord in his song is different but ever since the Blurred Lines case result indicated that you could be done for nicking a vibe which set a dangerous...
Box set? Any more details on this?
Same here. No plagiarism going on there.
I've always liked Todd Rundgren's version...

Alas, "Feeding Off The Love Of The Land" [[first released as the B side of "Gotta Have You") was written in 1973/4, with the vocal and piano version dating from that time being released on the...
More than enough great songs from Stevie in the 80s, although I do wonder how many were written earlier [["All I Do", as we know, comes from the 60s and there are several vocal/instrumental full band...
Speaking of Larry Blackmon, he hasn't seemed well for some time now - I understand he's now sitting down for gigs...
I do recollect reading somewhere of Donny's dissatisfaction with his greatest commercial success coming from his "duet" work, though this was voiced not too long before he apparently somewhat...
Stevie. He's one of a handful of songwriters who truly has his own take on harmonic language - I'd go as far to say that he's the greatest singular songwriter ever.
Aretha and James Brown did end up recording a rather underwhelming duet called Gimme Your Love that was on the Through The Storm. Even a remix of it by Prince couldn't save it [[it's not that...
Donny certainly seemed to be relatively OK around the time of the Aretha '71 "Young, Gifted & Black" sessions that he contributed keys and organ.
Quite amazing that there isn't a biography on...
The thing is, Donny was pretty much Aretha's male counterpart to me - both stunning vocalists and pianists who made no attempts to hide their gospel roots - which would have made for one hell of a...
I've long wondered if there are any recordings of these two incomparable singers duetting. We're all aware that Donny played on some of her tracks, but it seems quite inconceivable [[at least to me)...
The overriding reason for so many acts doing this is the diminishing income from publishing. With streaming being the norm re how people "consume" music, royalty payouts are a fraction of what they...
Donny wrote and produced this. It's the same backing track as Cold Blood's version so this is in effect a guide vocal. An absolutely stunning vocal by anyone's standards...

Here's hoping that the sound quality is better than the Kool & The Gang and Cameo Collected set. A lot of poor vinyl needledrops on both sets.
