It's tragic that we're highly unlikely to see the funk, and creativity, you got in black music in the late 60's, and early 70's.
I liked hip-hop when Public Enemy and Ice Cube etc were making it...
I listened to that on You Tube. It's excellent.
Thanks Roger.
As a big funk fan, it disappoints me that Levi Stubs didn't get to sing some real funk tracks.
I've just listened to Catfish. It sounded too much like disco for me. I meant songs like Masterpiece, ball of Confusion, Ain't No justice etc.
Levi Stubbs is a tremendous singer, but The Four Tops music isn't quit my cup of tea to be honest.
I would have loved to hear The Four Tops if they had been produced by Norman Whitfield, in the...
Well she'll certainly know what she's talking abut if she sings I Get High.
I wonder why they decided to change the title of the album? Could it have been to give the Law Of The Land single more publicity?
I have it as well paulo. At that ridiculous price I'd have bought it for one of my friends.
What year was the album recorded?
This is fantastic news.
I've been dying to get their second version of Life Ain't So Easy on CD. Let's Go Down To The Disco, and Take A Vacation From Life, are also great tracks.
Now all we...
Sad news. Slide was a tremendous funk track.
Though they made other good songs, I never thought they equalled that first track in their first album.
My favourite male singer is Joe Harris, of The Undisputed Truth.
My favourite female singer is the incredible Gladys Knight.
I agree. I Saw You When You Met Her, in particular, is a superb song.
What about Dexter Wansel - Life on Mars?
Marvin made so many great tracks it's hard to pick one, but if pushed I'd plump for Inner City Blues.
Thanks for the info tsull.
Thanks for the info Reese. You da man.
The sisters sang this during a soul music festival in Zaire in 1975. I've looked online and I can't find them having recorded this on an album. The credits say it was written by Curtis Mayfield.

I saw a documentray, named Soul Power, about a concert in Zaire before The Rumble In The Jungle, between Muhammed Ali and George Foreman.
During it The Spinners sang a song, I think when they were...
Maybe he feels The Bomb squad used samples superbly, creating fantastic new funk tracks with them, as opposed to the Black Eyed Peas simply churning out pop sh*t by the bucket load with them?

Me too.
The Undisputed Truth's version of The Temptations, You Make Your Own Heaven And Hell Right Here On Earth is my favourite song, of all time.
They made two album on Whifield Records. Nytro, and Return to Nytropolis
Here's a couple of links to photos, and track listings, of both albums.

It was vicious Marv,
If only there were music like that around today.
Cheers Daddyacey.
Whatever the category, it's a tremendous piece of music.
