She was clearly angry about something as she reportedly pushed her way back to the dressing room after the performance. Personally, i think she sensed it was all over prior to going on stage. It...
I always had a hunch you were none to keen.
I think “Beginning Of The End Of Love” would have made for the perfect followup single, with its soulful, haunting vibe matching that of “Reflections”.
I also like the uplifting John Henry”, and...
The difference being the Supremes look desperate to please. I love MS&S in the studio, but live Susaye can start to become annoying.
If only they could have calmed things down. It reminds me of a...
I’m a huge fan of “Beginning Of The End Of Love”, thinking it a far more commercial sounding song than either “Forever Came Today” or “Composer”.
It’s a total head scratcher why it was never...
That’s exactly what I think happened, although my gut feeling is that Flo was tired and hungover as opposed to drunk when first entering the dressing room. What happened after, who knows for sure.
There really was no special reason for Flo to do what she did that particular night. In the PJ book she says that she was worried not knowing if she was in or out of the group, and they had just...
A huge improvement i would guess. One thing I do love regarding the Reflections album is the progression in Diana’s voice, being generally far more rounded than those early hits.
By late 67 the music world was changing, being you were less likely to get away with surrounding a hit or two with filler as Reflections is testament to.
I agree. That outfit was placed there for a reason, eventually serving its purpose.
It’s odd with the care that went into recording the R&H album, that the company would just cobble together an lp in support of one of the groups finest and most contemporary songs.
I wonder how...
Something certainly managed to get Flo’s blood boiling that final night.
The additional tuxedo makes perfect sense, as she had apparently appeared in a happy mood prior to her entering the dressing...
I agree in the lack of any promotion for the album. The timing was also far from great, being as it followed the mega selling and tv advertised compilation 20 Golden Greats from the previous year....
Diana Ross without doubt. That unique voice emanating from the radio that first caught my ear as a young kid. The others were all great in their own personal way, but no one could ever quite match...
Im guessing Gordy had a huge change of heart after he and Flo had a heated exchange regarding the marquee advertising Diana Ross & The Supremes. It’s reported he was quite upset, realising Flo was...
In hindsight, she most probably was being naive in thinking BG would remain true to his promises of career involvement and support, but Mary always did veer towards the sentimental in thinking Motown...
It’s true that the drawn out lawsuit case had left her in financial difficulty. It really was a massive shame, as i think had Mary the funds to see it through to conclusion she might well have won....
My goodness, she now sounds an out of control drug addict, who veered from one disaster to another lol.
Given Motown’s total indifference, Pedro probably seemed to be her only port in a storm....
He might have been a little tender in years being only sixteen at the time lol.
A little older, and he would have made a fabulous addition to the group. I love his version of “WDOLG”. :D
I would imagine when you have the owner of a record company in your corner all the way, it would inspire you to go that extra mile. Flo and Mary never experienced that, making it impossible to gage...
I think another dance hit at that point would have done her career the power of good, with no reason to relinquish her trademark ballads because of it.
The thinking behind releasing “Your Love Is...
So are you saying more than one dance hit [[LH) would have been perceived as a threat to her level of respectability and legacy around that time. If so, they might have been plunged into troubled...
The point being, none of us were there so how could we possibly know if they weren’t being overly exertive in their quest to be given something more than oohs and ahhs to sing.
For all we know Flo...
Sadly for her that doesn’t seem to have been the case as they might have been able to offer help. We only have others testimony as to how her personality changed after the rape.
