The Spinners-Final Album "After Hours" [Reservoir Media-5/10/2024]

Info from SoulTracks.com:

The Spinners hold a special place for a generation of soul music fans. Both the group’s 60s Motown success and the 70s run of brilliance with producer Thom Bell established The Spinners as perhaps the greatest adult soul group of the era.
With the sad passing earlier this year of Henry Fambrough, the last original member of the group, fans cherish even more the group’s greatest recordings. But now is an unexpected treat: the 10 song Full Circle, featuring the final 2021 recordings of the Fambrouth-led version of the group [with longtime additional members Curtis CJ Jefferson, Marvin Taylor, Jessie Peck and Ronnie Moss], will be released May 10 by Reservoir Media, and a sneak peek first single from that exciting project has hit stores.
“Easy On Me” features Fambrough on lead vocals on a loping, country-influenced ballad that also features some of the most contemporary harmony arrangements we’ve heard from The Spinners. Written by Bernard Grobman, Jesse Daniel Blumenfeld and Jessica Chertock and produced by Grobman, “Easy” is a paean to a lover who has allowed the singer to “stop searching,” and to now rest in the welcoming arms of love.

Calling All Motown Fans

*CALLING ALL MOTOWN FANS*

We’re super excited to announce our upcoming Motown reissue collection, where we’ll be releasing 27 titles throughout 2024/2025!

What better way to kick off the series than with the insatiable ‘Temptations – Wish it Would Rain’, available on May 10th!

Released on the Gordy imprint of Motown, ‘Wish it Would Rain’ marks the end of the ‘Classic Five’ line up with David Ruffins’ departure during these sessions. ‘Wish it Would Rain’ would also be the last Temptations album that Smokey Robinson, formally of The Miracles, would produce. The band would pivot away from the traditional ‘Motown Sound’ shortly after, working extensively with Norman Whitfield, the innovator of ‘Psychedelic soul’.

A lesser known gem of the Motown catalogue, the album features two hits penned by Motown songwriter Rodger Penzabene; title track “I Wish It Would Rain” and “I Could Never Love Another [[After Loving You)” where Ruffin delivers a commanding [[final) vocal performance backed by Motown’s in house band ‘The Funk Brothers’.

We’ll be reissuing titles from Motown’s incredibly rich catalogue throughout the year with more titles from; The Supremes, Four Tops, The Jackson Five, Eddie Kendricks, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight & The Pips, and Diana Ross!

The Temptations – Wish it Would Rain will be available on vinyl on May 10th!

The Lewis Sisters

Wondering if there is anything unreleased left the The Lewis Sisters.....they were such good singers with great harmonies. Everything I have ever heard by them is amazing.....You Need Me one of my all time favourite Motown songs. Don't Make Me Live Without Your Love on Cellarful Of Motown.....such a strong song that sounds great every time I hear it and I never get tired of hearing it.

They also wrote some great songs.....Martha & the Vandellas Happiness Is Guaranteed for one which could have been such a big hit around the time it was released on Watchout! Gladys Knight & the Pips Just Walk In My Shoes which of course was a hit. I would love to hear more of their Motown recordings if there is anything left to release!

Supremes "At Their Best" and "Greatest Hits and Rare Classics"

A question about these releases:

Does anyone know why "Your Wonderful Sweet, Sweet Love" is absent from both?

Bobby Darin - Motown Years 1970 to 1973

In the late 60s and early 70s Motown signed several well established acts but then sort of took their eye off the ball resulting in frustration. True that a lot was happening at once with the move to LA and entering the film industry with "Lady Sings The Blues". Nevertheless there were some fantastic tracks from artists such as Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Bobby Darin and to a lesser extent Sammy Davis Jr and Lesley Gore.

Thankfully, in the case of Bobby Darin, material that had long been vaulted has been made available over the years - mainly thanks to Joe Marchesse & co [[e.g. Andy Skurrow) who've made it possible for these tracks to see release on CD. The Real Gone CDs have wonderful liner notes as well and are well worth looking up. In particular, "Another Song On My Mind" includes a great resume of Darin's Motown career - much of this can still be seen on the Real Gone website -

Is there a photo of Mike with the Modifiers or as Mike Varo as I want to put together a CD for my collection. I`d be very grateful if somebody could help.
