This almost went sideways for me. Getting three letters that can combine for a host of words sometimes results in a loss. I listened to my intuition to solve it.

Yeah, it can be intimidating most days. I'm just glad it's only 16 words. I would hate to have to figure out the best 16 words out of 17, or even 20, words. Nina, once again the purple group is ridiculous. Those are all words that school kids manage to spell with the numbers on their calculators. For example, 515 and 7718 [upside down] on the square digits of a calculator look like "SIS" and "BILL". The puzzle makers should be ashamed of themselves for that one.

Connections is borderline ridiculous most days. It's frustrating because you only really need to figure out three categories but when a category might be "subjects of popular Seinfeld episodes", it's not really fair to most people.

Connections is an interesting brain-teaser. I'm enjoying it. Some categories are just bizarre or are completely unknown to me. I would probably do well in music categories from 60s - 80s, but not for those later than that, for example. Same with electronics or technology.
I did poorly the other day. A few days ago, on the 22nd, the 3 of us solved without any errors. However we did not solve in the same order.

Nothing wrong with looking up a word or two. Just don’t look up the solution! 🤣
A lot of the words have two meanings or two pronunciations, so a dictionary or thesaurus would come in handy. A few times I was going to look up synonyms to try and help me.
About a week ago there was the word “tee” and all I could think of was a t-shirt. I never even thought of a golf tee!!! [I think the word shirt was one of the words which might have influenced that narrow perspective.]
As I mentioned before the last group is essentially a gimmee. I sometimes look at those remaining four words and try to figure out the connection, usually I can’t.

Regarding your Keyword score this morning, you have had such a long streak of perfect scores that I can only figure you either "fat fingered" the wrong key or were reckless.
Neither, I guessed incorrectly!
I figured the first letter was one of two letters, I guessed the wrong one.
Most of the time I'm solving these puzzles in the middle of the night, in bed. With Keyword I try to figure out the word before I enter any letters. I save Connections for later in the day when I'm doing the PM Phrazle, when hopefully I'm more alert, although that's close to my nap time when I need to make up for my 2 hours of nighttime insomnia.
I've been doing Waffle for a couple of years. I got tired of it about a year ago and only resorted to doing it when I was killing time. Of course I'm frustrated now that I can't seem to solve in 10 moves. Lately, it seems to take me 11 to 15 moves.
Saw this online:

Looking words up isn't out of bounds. Especially since a lot of the categories are based on slang or topical in nature. I wouldn't be surprised to see a category like "cars with tailfins", which would be the furthest away from most minds in 2024. The good news about Connections is that you really only have to figure out three categories as the last one is the only possible answer.

This is true. I never heard it in the present tense.
Three three-letter words is going to be difficult, but I had solved enough of it by guess #5 that I should have figured it out.
The purple group might make sense to a

I agree. That’s why I am now going to write down words of 7 or more letters so I can just plug them in to get started rather than wracking my brain trying to find a word. It’s fun to get a phrase in 2 or 3 tries but for long words I’m happy just solving the puzzle no matter how many tries.

I don't even try solving Phrazle on the first two guesses. I throw out words that use as many vowels and frequently-used consonants as possible and use the remaining guesses to figure out what goes where. It's always challenging for me.
I take the same approach. However, I have trouble choosing words longer than 7 letters that fit that criteria. So I’ve started to write-down those types of words so I can just plug them in without wasting time and brain cells. 🤣
