Absolutely love it. One of my favourites from that era.

Got the full-length mix on CBS 7" and also on CBS 12" in red vinyl.

Playing it in 2017, I can now hear some of the edits wherein sections of the original recording were remixed and repeated to create the extended version. But it's all done very well.

The radio version never got released commercially as a single in the UK as far as I know. It did turn up on a 20-track LP called "Tears And Laughter", however.

Prefer the disco mix myself.

According to 44Cat some of the 7" singles of "Gone Gone Gone" did have the short version, even though the labels suggested it was the full length version Sotosound.

The short version was the radio version. Hence "DJ" in the matrix number.

Nope, never heard this one before, so i don't remember it. This was the last new song I remember by Johnny Mathis with Deniece Williams:

It may have been in clubs in select cities, but overall? No.

It was not played in Ohio discos. Thus, I never heard it. I kind of like it, but it has a very 1979 feel to it....... feels dated in 2017.

Johnny definitely had an amazing catalog of material. I liked the duet he did with Jane Olivor and I thought his 1982 album "Friends in Love", which featured the duet with Dionne Warwick was great. Songs like "Something's Going On" and "When the Loving Goes Out of the Loving" were terrific.

It was a minor hit in the Netherlands were it reached around no.50 in the dutch charts, but still popular on the radio.
I got the USA Columbia red cover long remix 12-inch.

Where for some reason it gets an unnecessary bass boost which removes some of the subtlety of the track by making it "Gone, Gone, Gone", "THUD, THUD, THUD" [[IMHO).

The whole 3-CD set gets this extra bass boost and it mars what is otherwise a brilliant collection.

I remember hearing this on American Bandstand as a kid. I was shocked when Dick Clark said Johnny Mathis because I only knew of him as a crooner.

Great song[[s) ! Johnny's brief flirt with disco just as disco was peeking and in abundance , so his contribution to the genre got far less attention than it deserved.

Some of the British pressings I believe mistakenly credit Steve Thompson with mixing the song . GONE GONE GONE was remixed by John Luongo - on the 12" version for sure.

That 12", by the way, gives the nod to Johnny's disco version of BEGIN THE BEGUINE as the A side. It was mixed by Steve Thompson :



Both songs were conducted and arranged by Gene Page , the arranger behind Barry White's best stuff.
