Marvin Gaye's "Greatest Hits: Live in '76"

This performance sounds like one that was issued on VHS more than a few years ago. Florence Lyles performed the duets with Marvin on the copy I had.

Interesting... this is just reissue [remaster?] of "Live At The London Palladium" released on vinyl in March 1977. So... Universal is still releasing product on Motown artists... but only on Marvin Gaye? Sigh.

The set list is similar to the Palladium concert. But this one was recorded in Amsterdam.

Thanks for clarifying that, Reese. I overlooked that detail. I only recognized that the track list seemed like the '77 album took it from there. Still, it is frustrating that this is the only thing being released [or scheduled for release] in 2023.

I agree with Kenneth from the referenced post about the spotty performances. If this is the concert I had on VHS with Florence Lyles as the duet partner, Marvin's performance was uninspired. I didn't want to go in that direction in my original comment. Remember, Marvin’s self-imposed exile in Oostensde was plagued by drug use.

Obviously, Universal must have changed its thinking at least a bit, that someone connected with classic Motown is worthy of a release. Perhaps there may be another or other artists to follow. We can only hope.

Gaye was [[as are his descendants) a hot mess but a classic writer and performer. I attended a performance of this era at NYC's Radio City and it was good. Bravo for this release and though I will certainly not purchase a copy I sure will stream it when available. Good news for Marvin fans.

This concert is being shown on PBS Monday Jun 05 at 3:30 AM to 5:00 AM. for those who would like to see this concert. I don't know why they issued this on CD as I have this on Dvd so it would make more sense if they reissued the Dvd.
