    Aretha Box Sets

Can anyone recommend good Aretha boxsets? I only have the Queen of Soul 4 CD set that came out by Rhino in 2014.

The early 1990s "Queen of Soul" set is still considered the standard, I believe.

There's a new box set due July 30th to coincide with the Jennifer Hudson led biopic.

Yes, I have my eye on that new set. Is the 90s "Queen of Soul" the same as the this one: https://www.amazon.com/Queen-Soul-4C...0841231&sr=8-1

There's an Atlantic albums CD box set, which has all of her albums, except for With Everything I Feel In Me, Almighty Fire, Sweet Passion, La Diva and You. There's also a Columbia albums CD box set, which is now out of print and hard to find [[try eBay or Discogs).

    No. They are different.

Much of the content is the same but for the latter one, they added some unreleased songs as well as a few more more songs from AMAZING GRACE that weren't on the previous set. Also, the latter one doesn't have a great, detailed book like the earlier 1992 set.

I'm an Aretha-cologist but I consider the first QoS to be excellent and unsurpassed as regards 'edited' sets. The newer one is just [[to me) a this-song-in, this-song-out sorta thing. The complete singles set might be nice but I passed on it as I already have the material; the concept of every A and B side of each single is, to me, better in theory than practice! The Columbia 'Take a Look' set is wonderful if you like the Columbia material [[I do) and the complete Fillmore set is great yet also out of print. For completists the 2-cd 'Rare and Unreleased' set is excellent as well.

I forgot about the Complete Atlantic singles set. I play that one quite often. Even though I have all of the recordings already, there's something about listening to them back to back, and in their original mono mixes. Might need to pull it out tonight.

It does seem like a great set, in its way, Reese. How is the printed material? Based on your mini-review I'll Spotify-stream the set next time I'm Doordashin' ...

There are some notes from David Nathan as well as recording dates and personnel info. Nothing really new.

It doesn't appear on Amazon, but I found it announced on Rhino's website:

This is an automatic buy for me.
