Probably not too many remember The Breakaways. They recorded 2 of my all time favorite girl group songs...
That's How It Goes and He Doesn't Love Me Anymore.
They have that thundering Phil Spector sound.

Glad you brought them up. I just discovered who the Breakaways were this year doing research for my Petula Clark scrapbook. They were on her early Warner Bros. records and the sound was perfect for the era.

I love the Breakaways. They were just as important to the UK scene as the [[Proto-) Sweet Inspirations and the Blossoms were in the US.

Their wailing banshee style wasn't for everyone but they were more versatile than some might think. My favourite of theirs may be a ballad penned by 50s rocker [[and father to Kim) Marty Wilde, "Your Kind of Love". Inexplicably, it was tucked away on the b-side to a version of "Danny Boy".

The Breakaways aided Burt Bacharach in his first hit as a recording artist. "Trains and Boats and Planes" charted high for him in the UK, with the Breakaways as the featured vocalists, though they were only credited as "Chorus".

Here they are on television performing the follow up, pre-dating Dionne Warwick's version.

They also backed Dionne on her version of "You Can Have Him"

Here they are flanking Cilla Black [[with four additional singers in the back row) on a version of "So Fine".
