"He's Mine" By Alice Wonder Land 1963

What does anyone know about this record. ? It got alot of airplay in Miami when it came out August 1963 & evidently in Detroit too. It hit the Hot 100 in early Sept. '63 at #80 with a Bullett, went to #77 the next week & then vanished. It was on the Bardell label out of where? The writers & producers I never heard of. I heard Alice Wonder Land 's real name was Alice Faye Henderson?Others have said a group called the Swans had the same song out but the Alice Wonder Land was the original & biggest version. Was this a Canadian record? Thanks. I do remember a drawing type photo of Alice Wonder Land appearing at a club in Miami when the rcord was big down there.

She may be the same person as Marie Antoinette whose "He's My Dream Boy" came out on Providence, a subsidiary of Laurie, in 1964.

The Swans' version was released by Swan Records, in Philadelphia. The Bardell record, I believe, was also recorded in Philadelphia.

This 45 did indeed do well on the charts ...... it was on the Billboard national Top 100 pop chart for around 8 weeks, peaking at No.62 in mid October 63. Prior to that, it had been a big regional breakout in Detroit plus other areas.
To have made No.62 nationally, it must have been in the Top 10 charts of certain radio stations / cities ...... so I'd guess some details about her would have been printed at the time in the local press in areas where the record was charting.

I heard years ago that the girl who went out performing was not the
actual singer on the record. To the best of my memory, the newspaper
photo showed a girl with a ponytail. She didn't look black, however,
    she could have been.

jsmith, you are correct...in checking my Hot 100 Book of the 60's , the Alice Wonder Land version did stay on the Hot 100 8 weeks, even though it only peaked at #62. To me the Swans version is a note for note copy only slightly speeded up. I wonder if HDH was influenced by the opening of the track.?LOL

Both records have Stephen Schlaks as co-producer.
