Roger troutman of zapp - jesse rae - bizarre

I thought I was up to speed on all of Roger Troutman and Zapp's recordings / collaborations etc. I've seen a lot of bizarre characters in the music business. I think this must be the most bizarre of all - utterly bonkers, YET IT REALLY DOES WORK. Roger worked with Jesse Rae in his Drayton studios as well as appearing in Scotland with him. Jesse Rae has a highly distinctive dress sense, usually including a claymore........I suspect the airline would not accept the claymore on the flIght from UK to USA as it would contravene their baggage policy. Jesse Rae intends standing for the Scottish Parliament.............. by the way, Jesse Rae wrote 'Inside Out' recorded by Odyssey!!!!

Roger was truly one of a kind as a musician, a showman, and a humanitarian. He left much too soon and that's a tragedy. I never heard of Jesse Rae until just now and this video makes me wonder if everything is okay with that gentleman. I don't want to sit down next to him on a crowded bus; quite odd, indeed.

On a side note, I remember Mark Adams of Slave being miffed about other bassists biting his very distinct style and I always suspected Oddysey's "Inside Out" was the one cut that actually set him off. With the possible exception of the line during the hook, the rest of the song not only sounds like his style, it sounds like him playing [[in my opinion). I guess he didn't know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, for me to find out that not only did they crib his style, but they did so to cover another artist's song kind of changes my impression of the song, which was [[in my opinion) a very underrated cut from the '80s.

Jerry, being that Slave produced Odysey's Inside Out I always thought that it WAS Mark playing bass on that song...

Anyway, considering he was so influenced by P-Funk even if Roger severed his ties with them and before Steve Washington of Slave would jump ship to go with GC, I don't find Jessie Rae's getup all that bizarre. Maybe he should have changed it up a bit or found a way
to show more of him face...
Lastly, that damn Roger....he was something else, I hated and still hate the way he went out...

I didn't know that Slave produced Oddysey on that track. I'll dig to find out if that was him, Splanky. I remember reading liner notes where he was beefing and the best example of someone sounding like him was that track, so if it was him, it would explain why! Hah!

Anyway, there are some artists [[Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley, for one) who prefer the cover of disguise when performing. Maybe Jesse Rae is free to perform by being hidden beneath the get-up. Whatever works, I say.

Thanks for the link! That discussion was a great read. And to think that I'm not the only one who scratched his head over it...
