I recently picked up Vernon Burch's 1977 Columbia L.P. I have now all of his recorded work on United Artist and Chocolate City. This album also has Susaye Green on it as well as on his first album. Vernon was once in the Bar-Kays after they reformed and before they started to blow up again. I first heard him on his first solo album on U.A. in 1975. There was something about him that was similar to Stevie at the time but not enough to be considered a copy of Stevie. He had his own flavor. His Chocolate City albums were more Funk/Disco oriented ,but this 77 album and his 75 album are very Stevie-ish in writing and performance yet unique in his own style. His albums are solid in sonics and writing ,most are his own compositions. His simularity to Stevie and poor promotion seem to be the only reason that he is not as well known as he should be. His LP's seem to fetch a high price ,depending on where you find them. Are there any Vernon Burch fans out there?
