    Splanky,

Don't know how I missed this thread.

You know, whenever I see pictures of the past like these, I immediately begin to wonder about the people, their times & what life was like for them back then. I've been collecting pictures of Brooklyn & Queens, my neighborhoods both current & past & it totally fascinates me.

To look at some of those old pictures & to see an elevated train about Pitkin, Fulton & Atlantic Avenues is a world that I never experienced. Even more fascinating is the fact that most of those els were demolished a few short years of my birth. And to see what existed before my lifetime at Brooklyn GPO on Cadman Plaza, the EL passing over Borough Hall, or what once existed on the sites of the Kingsborough, Van Dyke & Pink Houses or Atlantic Towers nsimply blows my mind.

Likewise with these shots of people & places I've never known or seen. For me, it's an interesting slice of Americana of a lifestyle & time which I've never know & quite sadly in some regards, will never return.

Thanks for the link, as it gives a little glimpse into a world that many people don't seem to know existed, especially the more elegant & affluent life styles that more than a few blacks enjoyed during a time period which most seem to believe such a thing to have been an impossibility.
