I'll apologise in advance for including some immigrants and a Canadian but my top ten best at this time would be:

    Aretha Franklin
    Ella Fitzgerald
    Sarah Vaughn
[[those I share with you Jai...)
    Betty Carter
    Miriam Makeba
    Celia Cruz
    Aster Aweke
    Ejigayehu "Gigi" Shibabaw
    Cleo Laine
    and tied:
    Jeri Brown [[the Canadian)/Rene Marie

These women could sing the ingrediants off of a can of pasta sauce and I'd listen...

No falsettos? No Brits? Why the exclusion? That forces me to leave out Philip Bailey and James Dewar.

Anyway, if you wanna play it that way, and you didn't specify genre, here's some off the top of my head:

    Dinah Washington
    Teddy Pendergrass
    Teena Marie
    Aretha Franklin
    Frank Sinatra
    Nancy Wilson
    Lou Rawls
    Marvin Gaye
    Karen Carpenter
    Olivia Newton-John

    Ella Fitzgerald
    Billie Holliday
    Smokey Robinson
    Sam Cooke
    Luther Vandross
    Johnny Wilder, Jr. [[Heatwave)
    Phillip Bailey
    Aretha Franklin
    Al Green
    Patti LaBelle

But this could all change by tomorrow. It's too hard to pick just ten.

I guess I cheated, eh? Although on Phillip Bailey's album "Continuation" he sings falsetto, tenor, and baritone at different times. I'll leave him on the list and replace the other two with David Ruffin and Al Jarreau.

Late in their careers/lives, when David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks released their album, I recall hearing the single on the radio and thinking "Good God, what's wrong with Eddie Kendricks?!" while also remarking how good David Ruffin still sounded in comparison.

Smokey Robinson has said that he doesn't sing falsetto, that's his normal voice.
