    James Baldwin's doo-wop brother

Legendary author, playwright and activist James Baldwin had a younger brother named David, who was an original member of The Drifters. When Clyde McPhatter quit or was fired from Billy Ward & The Dominoes in 1953, Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records quickly signed him to the label and told him to form a group. Clyde went out and got 4 guys including baritone David Baldwin. The group did their first session for Atlantic on June 28, 1953, recording 4 songs. Atlantic was not satisfied with the results and asked Clyde to form another group meaning David was out after one session. I wonder if James ever thought about writing a book or play about that.
