    London recorded from 1955 through 1969. She came out of retirement just once in 1981, at Burt Reynolds' request, to record this track for his soundtrack album of "Sharky's Machine". Reynolds also brought in Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughan and Joe Williams.

    Farmer's Boy dates back to the 1800's. As a folk singer herself Melanie would likely have been exposed to the song. Lyrically they're dissimilar but I could easily see where Melanie could have been inspired by the title. And used that as a jumping off point in creating her song.
