"Come See About Me" the original studio version.

there will never be anything like hearing the original pressing of Come See About Me in November of 1964
just listening to that intro as the drum roll get louder and louder was something I will always cherish as a new Supremes fan, not to mention the in your face vocals and rhythm track.

"Come See About Me" on Dec 5, 1964 was #8 on its way to #1 on Dec. 19, and again in Jan when
it knocked the Beatles I Feel Fine out of #1. This to me was the ultimate Supremes song.

If Nella Dodds' version of "Come See About Me" had not been released, do you think that the Supremes' version would have remained an album cut only?

Now THAT's interesting! Not so much to the fact that it was planned for release, but when it was planned. If it was intended to be released later than it originally was released then it could have affected the rest of the Supremes/HDH chartings all the way through 1968. As Andy pointed out on one of Midnight Johnny's Nightflight shows, "Nothing But Heartaches" peaked at number 11 on the charts, but ahead of it were 10 CLASSIC songs well loved and still played today during that particular week it peaked in 1965. Had "Come See About Me" been released later like it was originally intended, it could have shifted all future releases off by a few weeks to a few months and may have affected chart positionings. If released just a few weeks later, "Nothing But Heartaches" would been challenging different songs on the charts and could have given the girls another top 10 hit or gave the group a 13th number one. Very interesting...

my brother already had the WDOLG LP & "Come See About Me" was my fave on the LP.When I heard Nella Dodds record on the radio I went crazy cause nobody better mess with MY Motown [[except Mary Wells)LOL.I just knew CSAM was gonna be the next 45. I really do think its the best song of the 3 first#1's but WDOLG has that special thing goin for it.

This song will always be my all time favorite Supremes song, probably all time favorite Motown song. The girls promoted the hell out of this song with 8 TV appearances singing it, I think that might be the most for all their singles.

Eddie Holland said he wanted CSAM released before Baby Love and felt CSAM was a much better record than BL. What position did Nothing But Heartaches reach on Cashbox? I will ewswarch.

I'm sure someone knows the story of how Nella Dodds got her release out before the Supremes. Was it found on the album [WDOLG] and some producer jumped on it for rush release? [Thelma Houston & Hal Davis with Don't Leave Me This Way]

Did HDH write The Marvelettes' Finders Keepers before or after Come See About Me? Both songs have some similar musical DNA.

"Come See About Me" started my obsession with The Supremes.

WDOLG that summer blew me away. "Baby Love" didn't excite me. When CSAM hit the radio I was hooked.

I got the LP for Christmas that year. My mother gave me the money to go buy it for myself as a gift from her, which I did on December 26th. Unfortunately I did not see them on Sullivan the next evening the 27th, I didn't know they were on. Ironically I was probably listening to the album instead of watching TV!

I did catch them quite by accident one night in January when they were on Hullabalo. My very first time seeng them on TV. They did a medley of their 3 hits and joined Shirley Ellis for a brief verse of the Name Game "Supremes, Supremes, Bo Bupremes...". I was in heaven.

Appears Motown was right in releasing BL after WDOLG seeing that it stayed at #1 for 4 weeks. It made sense as it was the trend back then for a follow-up record to sound similar to the previous hit, sometimes it worked, sometimes not. I'm glad it worked out the way it did, CSAM as the third single showed that the group had more to offer.

I think thats exactly it nabob. In fact I'm pretty sure that Weldon McDougal produced it or at least had something to do with Nelda Dodds who could sing. The late Weldon, use to post quite a bit on SDF & furnish us with alot of info & great pix.He ofcourse was of Motown fame in later 60's.

Smark " Finders Keepers, Losers Weapers" was first 10 th. April 1964. "Come See About Me " was 13th. July 1964.

I was prompted to review the charts for all their singles while reading some posts from the Stoned Love thread a few weeks back. Someone questioned how some late-60s and early-70s singles charted more weeks than some #1 singles but never, themselves, reached #1.
