Lily The Pink -- The Irish Rovers [[1969), also charted by the UK group The Scaffold. Backing vocalists on this recording included Graham Nash [[of The Hollies), Elton John [[then Reg Dwight), and Tim Rice; while Jack Bruce [[of Cream) played the bass guitar.

    We'll drink a drink, a drink
To Lily the Pink, the Pink, the Pink
The savior of the human race
    For she invented medicinal compound
    Most efficacious in every case

    Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee - Stick McGhee [[1947)

Recorded first in 1947 on Harlem Records, which folded soon after the record's release, it was re-recorded by McGhee in 1949 for Atlantic Records. It was Atlantic's first hit, selling 400,000 copies and reaching #2 on the Billboard R&B chart. McGhee earned only the $10 he was paid for the recording session.

Young Love -- Ric Cartey with the Jiva-Tones [[1956)

The song became a hit several times over the years with well known cover versions released by Sonny James, Tab Hunter [[in a version that went to number one in 1957), the Crew-Cuts, and Donny Osmond who scored a number one hit on the UK Singles chart in 1973.

Rocket 88 - Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats [[1951)

This was Ike Turner & His Kings of Rhythm, though it was credited as above; Brenston was Turner's saxophonist and sang the lead vocal on the song. Was a #1 hit on the Billboard R&B chart. Considered today to be an important milestone in the development of rock and roll, with some considering it to be the first [[or one of the first) rock and roll records.

Fly Me To the Moon [[originally called "In Other Words") -- Kaye Ballard [[1954). Frank Sinatra's 1964 version was closely associated with the Apollo missions to the Moon.
