    George 'Bad' Benson - Supership

Does anyone know whether George Benson's 'Supership' has ever been made available on CD? It was a single on CTI in 1975 when he was momentarily known as George 'Bad' Benson[[!). Although it didn't do well in the US, not charting on the Hot 100 and only reaching 98 on Billboard Soul chart, it got to 30 on the UK pop charts. I've never seen it on any compilations or included as a bonus on CD reissues of albums from that period. Have I missed it? If not, anyone know why it's never resurfaced?

I've never seen it on C.D. or the other U.K. chart hits from C.T.I./Kudu ....

    2001 - Deodato
    Jaws - Lallo Schriffrin
What A Difference a Day Made - Esther Phillips.

Thanks Roger. Yes, you're right, the single versions of those haven't been made available on CD either. I'm not sure about the duration of the Esther Phillips song but it's always the full versions of the others that appear. I've been looking for the short 'Jaws' too. But at least those songs are/have been available in some form. 'Supership' is totally illusive.

When I first listened to my non-promo UK single of Supership I thought that it was in mono, whereas it's actually in stereo but in very, very narrow stereo. In instances such as this I wonder what the point of stereo is.

I hate leaving unanswered questions dangling, even if the question was nearly 15-years ago ;-)

Supership was included on the 2017 Robinsongs release "Cool Heat [[The Best Of CTI Records)" in Europe. Various – Cool Heat [[The Best Of CTI Records) | Releases | Discogs

As I understand it they used a copy of the stereo release master to cut the track.

This track remains illusive, why was it released, why wasn't it included on the Bad Benson album etc. I'll try to ask George Benson, but I'm not hopeful he'll have much memory of it.

It was a one of a small number of 7" records released on April 26th, 1975 by CTI on unlabeled CTI 45's. Tony Sarafinoi hand picked the DJ's to receive copies, all in NYC or Philly. He subsequently called them to get feedback. The package also included a letter.

"Supership" is a great single. My ears tell me that it's very narrow stereo.

Regarding "What A Difference A Day Made", the compilations that I own contain the long version, and the only place that I've come across the single edit is on my own UK single.

I've also not seen Lalo Schifrin's version of "Jaws" on CD.

I've just found George ['Bad'] Benson's "Supership" on YouTube. My take after hearing the song for the first time, it's a good '70s dance track. Anyway for those who want to hear it, here it is.
