Fan clubs that existed in the past - Dionne Warwick

Does anyone have any knowledge of a current FAN CLUB for the legendary Dionne Warwick? Back in the last century in the 1980's there was one for Dionne Warwick that started in Wind Gap, PA. Were any other SDF forum members active in this? When did it start, when did it end [if it did] and did they put out a publication for members?

You rarely hear of fan clubs today like we did in the past, especially on Motown and the labels many super stars.

I was a member of that Dionne club and the ladies did a decent job on it. I would say we got at least a monthly newsletter and it always kept us posted on appearances, upcoming releases [[which of course would have been more frequent then) and remember there was no internet then, so fan clubs were the only way to go. My guess is that these days a fan club is old news and that fans get their info a wide variety of other ways.

I was a member of Dionne's fan club as well. As I recall, it was started by two fans, Lynn and Colatta, I believe. I met them at the pre-Broadway tryout for her DIONNE SINGS DIONNE show in 1998. I still have a membership card from 1995 stating that I was a member in good standing.

At some point leadership changed and a gentleman named Neil became President. I have an Xmas card from 2005 from that time.

After this, I think it became totally online for some period.

This post made me dig into some old drawers and I found things I had long forgotten about, various newsletters and Xmas cards. I even have a 2011 Dionne calendar.

How interesting that you saved that stuff. As the devoted a fan of hers that I am, I am shocked at myself for not saving things from that club. You would think I would have a whole scrapbook full!

On a cruise [[Norway & Iceland) at present. Found 2nd hand record shops in two ports we have called in at [[in Norway). One had 3 x French Vogue label EP's by Dionne from back in the day [[60's). Everything is expensive in Norway [[high taxes to pay for all the facilities paid for by their government) but I came away with 2 of the EP's [[+ other stuff). To say both EP's are around 60 years old, the vinyl & picture covers are in 'nearly-new' condition [[have obviously been in a well cared collection for most of their long lives).
