Jackson 5 at the Los Angeles Forum August 16 1969

When the J5 supported Diana Ross & The Supremes at the LA Forum on 16 August 1969, what songs did they perform - does anyone know?

    "It's Your Thing"

Well I'm guessing one of the songs they may have performed was "It's Your Thing" which they completed recording by 7th August 1969. They performed it live on Miss Black America on 22nd August 1969 at Madison Square Gardens.

Their Motown recording remained unreleased until 1995 with the release of "Soulsation".
    Here's info from DFTMC -

It's Your Thing [[Ronald Isley-O'Kelly Isley-Rudolph Isley) published Jobete 17-Apr-69

The Jackson 5; recorded live Los Angeles Forum, Inglewood CA, 20-Jun-70
11-Jun-10; CD [[S): Hip-O Select B0014405-02 Live At The Forum

The Jackson 5; recorded MoWest ; produced by Bobby Taylor ; [v2]
    27-Jun-95; CD [[S): Motown 530 489 2 Soulsation! The 25th Anniversary Collection

But there was also a promotional record issued for Soulsation which included an extended remix, instrumental and a cappella versions [[374631294-1) as well as the original 1969 mix and three other tracks. It shows that "It's Your Thing" was produced by Bobby Taylor [[which does figure). So I believe the Funks were on the track. But crucially, Taylor states that they recorded NO vocals in Detroit so along with many other tracks vocals had to have been added in LA.

Berry supposedly fired Bobby Taylor at the time of recording "Money Honey" which was completed by Hal Davis. It was felt that the songs were too old fashioned - that track probably being a case in point. Do we know the exact date Taylor was "fired"? "Money Honey" was completed 14 February 1970 I gather.

"Soulsation" erroneously states that "It's Your Thing" was recorded on 7th August 1970 whereas 1969 seems far more appropriate. The unreleased tracks on "Soulsation" received new stereo mixes.

Thanks Roger but that's a later concert when they were more established. It features on the "Live At The Forum" 2 CD package along with their "return" engagement on 26 August 1972. Interesting to note, though, they they were still including "It's Your Thing" in 1970.

Just wondering about the tracklist from their first appearance where they supported DRATS.
