The Chiffons’ Judy Mann and arranger Norman Bergen go back to the ‘60s

    From GoldmineMagazine.com:

This week, we celebrate the music of The Chiffons: Judy Craig Mann, Barbara Lee Jones, Patricia Bennett, and Sylvia Peterson, who debuted in the Top 40 in 1963 with their million selling chart-topper “He’s So Fine,” produced by The Tokens through their Bright-Tunes Production group. In 2021, the lead singer Mann reunited with music arranger Norman Bergen for an East Coast Music Hall of Fame interview session, after not seeing each other for 50 years. Goldmine has brought Mann and Bergen back together again to discuss the hits, songs we feel should have been hits, flip sides, and sadly, a historic reminder of racial issues in the South in the ‘60s as we conclude Black Music Month.

I don't think I've ever seen Norman Bergen's name on a Chiffons 45. Was he credited on the albums?

It saddens me that there is no worthy CD of the Chiffons material. Even Ace's "Greatest Recordings" has some poor sources for a number of tracks. I've read that Tom Moulton rescued some mastertapes from the dumpster, so there may be better sources out there. Isn't it about time for "The Chiffons - The Complete Laurie Recordings"?

I've never seen Norman Bergen's name on any of The Chiffons' LPs either [credits like those were usually left off the back covers of albums during the group's heyday]. And while a "Complete Laurie Recordings" collection for The Chiffons would be great, I think that the 2CD 50 track set Sweet Talkin' Girls* from EMI's Stateside label in 2006 will be the last word on their recordings.

*I don't have this collection so can't say anything about the sound quality of the tracks on it.

I would suggest checking Discogs. I have seen and owned several adequate Chiffons collections over the years so I suspect they are still out there somewhere.
