Excellent, thanks for that, I've added the master numbers to my J5 database [[which is just an Excel version I set up some time ago based on the source you quoted.

There was a good thread on the J5 sessions a while back. It's nice to be able to put the master numbers in from your list into my spreadsheet to help see how everything fits. There have been several CDs of previously unreleased J5 etc recordings and it was quite hard to keep abreast of what I had and didn't [[yet) have plus what could still potentially be awaiting release.

I know there are several members here who have an interest in the J5 recordings and I'm sure they'll be interested in your list [[and may be able to assist with additional info). Obviously it would be fantastic to be able to put master numbers to everything in time [[album tracks too). Maybe a dry subject but for me it's really fascinating.

I'm glad you like my list Mysterysinger! The Jackson Five's recording sessions are a very interesting subject to me as well!

Correction: The recording date for "That's How Love Goes" is January 6, 1972. I put the wrong date by accident.

If you know anyone who may have more information on their recording dates and master numbers, or any members who are interested in this list, please inform me!

    Thanks!

For the first track listed, "Who's Lovin' You" the time on the label states 2:59, but I believe it actually plays for about 4:22 [[according to 45Cat). Also, on the Canadian version of this single, the matrix for "Who's Lovin' You" is shown as X4KM-4323. USA is T1-K-B-683M04.

Also, various sources, including the Classic Motown Timeline, indicate that "I Want You Back" was recorded after August 11, 1969 when The Jackson 5 relocated to LA and began working on the first single.

So August may be right [[some sources say July). They seem to have recorded some tracks in Detroit [[with Bobby Taylor) before switching to LA.. Maybe they had a go at "I Want You Back" in Detroit but couldn't get the right feel but either way I think the reference MW-1 for this track indicates the first foray for The Jackson 5 at MoWest [[MW). Must be a precursor to the 60000 series which supposedly began in 1970. "I Want You Back" was released 7th October 1969. There's another thread on this.

What I'm also trying to figure out is how these master numbers relate to when The Jackson 5 recorded their vocals.
I think the master numbers are more so an indication of when the song was first recorded [[since the numbers are assigned to a track after the session ends).
In most cases, the master numbers I found line up with the sound of Michael's vocals, in other cases they don't.

Take "Morning Glow" for example. The numbers indicate that it was recorded before "Doggin' Around", but his voice sounds much deeper and more mature on the latter, which means that lead vocals were probably recorded or overdubbed later.

But take "Touch" and "Hallelujah Day". The numbers indicate they were recorded soon after "Melody", which would've been around January 1973. Michael's vocals on those songs, however, sound like they could've been recorded earlier between August and November 1972. "Hallelujah Day" in particular sounds similar to "If I Can't Nobody Can" [[which was recorded November 1972 according to the CD booklet). The list jaorecords made [https://www.mjjcommunity.com/threads...6/post-4528098]] also estimates those songs were recorded between August and November 1972.

Then again, CD liner notes are misleading sometimes. Maybe they recorded the track for "If I Can't Nobody Can" in November 1972, but lead vocals were recorded later. Just like " Would Ya Would Ya Baby" [[working title: "When the Real Thing Comes Along"). The track was first recorded in December 1972 [[just as the CD booklet indicated), but Michael's lead vocals were recorded on January 4, 1973. The track sheet below shows the recording dates:

Yes I've seen scans of cards like that in respect of Four Seasons Motown recordings - generally coloured pink. It's worth stating that DFTMC [[Don't Forget The Motor City) shows dates of completion, so to my mind that would be the latest date shown. DFTMC only covers recordings up to 1972.

Others should be able to tell you more but as you're finding out, it doesn't seem to be an exact science - probably due to tracks going over several recording sessions. Nice to know they show when the foot stomps and handclaps were recorded. Perhaps "BG" refers to the backing group.

    It's a fascinating subject.

For what it's worth, master 61769 falls between

61764 Charlene Duncan - B side - Give It One More Try Motown 1285FB Released 17 January 1974 and

61770 The Miracles - B side - I Wanna Be With You Tamla 54248FB Released 20 June 1974 [[but already released on the Renaissance album 18 April 1973)
