    From ABCeyewitnessnews.com:

Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys' visionary and fragile leader whose genius for melody, arrangements and wide-eyed self-expression inspired "Good Vibrations," "California Girls" and other summertime anthems and made him one of the world's most influential recording artists, has died at 82.

He was a genius, way ahead of his time. The Beach Boys had a great and unique sound.

    RIP Mr. Wilson.

I find myself saying this too often these days but we are losing so many of our greats. May he R.I.P.

I echo Reese's sentiment. We are losing sooo many great ones. I hope these young folks out there trying to break into the business, or at least last a while, can really appreciate the sacrifices of those that have paved the way for them.

End of an era. This week has been rough. Rest well, Mr. Wilson.

I'm deeply saddened to learn of Brian Wilson's passing. God, he was such a crucial part of our teen years, as well as -- in some way or other -- every year since.. Like me, Brian was a huge fan of Phil Spector's Philles label and its Wall Of Sound, which was evident in the Beach Boys' 1963-1966 recordings with lots of baritone saxes, chimes, handclaps, and layers of Wall Of Sound.

Here is my favorite video of the Beach Boys.... and Lorrie Morgan! The thrilled look on her face when the Beach Boys start singing live in the studio with her is pure delight! [[It brought a tear to my eyes, especially when they showed a close-up of Brian singing, but if you want a simultaneous feel-good moment, this is the answer.)

He was one of history's greats.

My favorite, among others, is Darlin'.

Circa, I got out all of my Beach Boys' CD's yesterday, of which most of them are the deluxe 2-fers with Bonus Tracks. When I got to their "Party"/"Stack-O-Tracks" CD, I noticed that the first track on "S-O-T" is "Darlin", which immediately reminded me of you! In case you weren't aware, "Stack-O-Tracks" is a collection of Beach Boys' hits minus the vocals -- almost like Earl Van Dyke & The Soul Brothers' "That Motown Sound" album. The difference is that Motown replaced the artists' lead vocals with Earl's organ riffs, whereas the Beach Boys' "S-O-T" instrumentals are exactly as they were on their hit versions [[minus the vocals). If you weren't already familiar with the Beach Boys' vocal version of "Darlin", you might swear that their instrumental version is a Motown backing track -- especially with the 4/4 beat on the snare, the tambourine, and the baritone sax..

Here, have a listen for yourself!

It just hit me that all three Wilson brothers are now gone. All that's left of the original hit-making line-up is cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine.

I must say, I'm surprised that so few Forum members have commented regarding Brian's death. I thought everybody liked the Beach Boys. No?

I love the Beach Boys. Grew up with and loved their music, even before the Beatles and before I knew of Motown. Two original Beach Boys left, two Beatles and one original Supreme. :[[

You're welcome, Boogie! I take it you weren't aware of the "Stack-o-Tracks" album?

I hadn't forgotten about Bruce, but he was a replacement for Brian. I was referring to the original 5 lineup -- brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis, and cousin Mike, and friend Al.

Brian Wilson also produced some exciting Girl Group records on artist Sharon Marie as well as his wife Marilyn's group, The Honeys.

NOTE: This is by the Wrecking Crew -- NOT by The Beach Boys, as incorrectly shown in this video. [It's the backing track for The Honey's version [[above)]. As can be heard, Brian's love for Phil Spector's production style shines through loud and clear!

Always loved the Beach Boys. Help Me Rhonda is a song I never get tired of hearing. Whenever I hear one of their songs, it immediately brings back memories for me of being on the beach at the Jersey shore with my family as a kid as we usually played their songs on the radio while on the beach.

    Rip to Brian Wilson

Yes; Those songs that Brian Wilson produced for Sharon Marie & The Honeys were fantastic [and fine additions to a good Beach Boys collection]. Here's a dance song that Brian produced for Rachel & The Revolvers.

I couldn't agree more, Eddie. And they would have surely scored high on the Hot 100 had the "British Ivasion" not taken over -- knocking our Girl Group artists off the charts. Thank Heaven, Motown grew up hand-in-hand with the Brits, and even earned the respect and admiration of The Beatles and Stones along the way.

Sad to lose such a legend. We have lost quite a few over the past few years: Ronnie Spector, Wanda Young, Mary Wilson, and now another is now longer with us, but the world was a better place with them in it and a sadder one without, but their legendary music will live on.

It's sad StandBy, but our loss is Heaven's gain. I'll betcha Brian is already up there recruiting talent and scheduling recording sessions! He's surely already reunited with Carl and Dennis. Great things are bound to happen!

It's true, they've left a mark on the world and the history of music. If there is a heaven I like to think Ronnie and Brian are making a new version of Be My Baby together as we speak.

Dennis Wilson, the drummer, was so handsome. The girls loved him.

He had a tragic life and drowned at age 39. It is another possible movie-making story of a young famous heartthrob becoming an out-of-control addict leading untimely to his death.

Many stories of the Wilson father being abusive, especially towards Brian.

After the Kennedy awards that he and Diana received together, I remember Brian saying he was now listening to a lot of Diana Ross. Would love to know what songs were his favorite.
