    The Amazing Lowell Boileau

Many members of this forum are familiar with Lowell's contribution to this website. The ship sails on smooth waters. Actually most members have had dealings with Lowell when certain tech problems have surfaced from time to time. Lowell, along with his son Nick, are always available when needed.

What most of you don't know is that Lowell is an accomplished artist, using a technique that I still don't quite understand. What I do understand is the quality of his style which is like nothing I have ever seen before.

Lowell posts his work on Facebook from time to time. I have asked him to please post some of his amazing art right here at Soulful Detroit, and he has agreed to do so. Keep an eye on this thread. He should be posting some of his work shortly.

Ralph, thank you for the kind words and greetings to SoulfulDetroit Nation. Apologies for the delay in replying Ralph, and to those who checked in on this thread.

I will begin by posting three paintings from my "Flying Dreams" theme that I have being sharing on Facebook. For perspective, all are large paintings typically around 4-5 feet [120-150cm] in their largest dimensions. Enjoy.

In our first flight we are flying over my Highland Park studio/home of 27 years, illuminated in the lower right. The house is accurately depicted. The rest? The rest is part of a dreamworld.

    Flying Dreams Painting 2

This Flying Dream has us flying over an impersonal Chicago-esque night skyline broken up by an island of greenery where partiers dance the night away.

    “Time Piece”
    Flying Dreams Painting 3

…finds us soaring above a Rust Belt industrial river town, from somewhere deep in my subconscious. The 1980's found Detroit, then the archetype of the term rust belt, in severe decline falling into decay and abandonment making it, and all rust belt cities, in danger of becoming a Time Piece.

Lowell attempts to explain this amazing process in his resume at
    www.atdetroit.net/resume/microp.htm

"Microscopic points of the primary colors yellow, red and blue on a white surface are all my MicroPointillist paintings consist of.

"This technique is called MicroPointillism. It was developed in 1979 by Detroit Artists Stephen Goodfellow and Lowell Boileau. As with 19th Century Pointillist painting, the viewing eye does the mixing of points of color to created the thousands of colors that appear. The only difference is that the points are microscopic and only the three primary colors are used."

I knew he is an artist from the beginning of “At Detroit”. And the art tours organized in Detroit the dotted houses. For example. I think they are burned down now. Above examples are amazing.

    Do you sell?
