For me, Bye Bye Baby is my least favorite Mary Wells album. I like The One Who Really Loves You & Two Lovers LPs better. And I think the cover art on Two Lovers is the best out of the three as well.
To me her first three albums were merely footnotes by Motown, who were in their infancy and were concentrating on hit singles. The productions are raw and Motown had not yet established The Motown Sound. Two Lovers was the closest to that sound than previous singles.
I actually enjoy her first album because of the innocence of it. Even the liner notes on the back jacket is so teenage for its time. Of course she didn't write this herself and the whole letter is fiction.
Her My Guy album is a classic. Pure Motown. But by then she was gone and trying to re-create this sound on various labels with limited success
Is the mono version of the My Guy album noticeably different to the stereo?
Of the first three, TWO LOVERS is my favorite. Aside from the hits, I really like the tracks MY 2 ARMS - YOU = TEARS, GOODY GOODY, and my absolute fave, LOOKING BACK.
In the early 60's Rock & Soul LPs were not major sellers.45's were KING.LPs[[mono) were $2.79-$2.99, so I only got maybe 2 or 3 a year[[birthday, Christmas & maybe a good report card at end of school year)."Two Lovers" was my fave, as I love the photo cover. My entertainment when going shopping with family, was going to record dept & staring at LP covers. My fave LP cut is "Stop Right Here".
