I was wating for this article. I first heard of Laura Lee when she came out with "Women's Love Rights" in 1971. While I understand that Laura didn't consider herself as an advocate of 'women's lib', the combination of her deep soul vocals & the "stand up woman" lyrics made her a star during the Invictus/Hox Wax era of the early '70s. Thanks again Hekki.
Nice article. She was a great one and should have had a much bigger career.
I was always a Laura Lee fan since "Dirty Man" on Chess. I LOVE all her Hot Wax/Invictus records.I'm sorry I never got to see her LIVE.
Thank you, Eddie, David and Motony!
It was great to talk to Messrs. Holland, Bond and Barnum, too.
There's still one more episode to go.
Best regards
Heikki
Laura Lee and more! thanks Heikki!
no need to point out who vocally that perhaps sounds too much like ....
It's a strange coincidence that the theme of Laura Lee's "Wanted - Lover, No Experience Necessary" foreshadows that of the Honey Cone's "Want Ads" on Hot Wax.
Here is two Laura Lee's of the Invictus records, I have all of the Honey Cone's, Want Ads, & Hot Wax. I'll try & find them, [If you want them?] I Also Have the "Angelo Bond" 45's and his Album.

Really surprised me with the "Angelo Bond" artist I have always loved his album and his 45's. Thanks for this.

Hi Graham!
I also think that Bondage is a very good, and a very underrated album.
That was one of the reasons I wanted to talk to Angelo.

I found this on the Soulfulkindamusic.net website.
Detroit, Michigan held a "Laura Lee Day" on the 20-July-1974.
I would love to know more details about this day from 1974. Anyone know anything?
I'm very fond of Laura Lee's 2 Hot Wax albums and also her one Invictus album. Some of my favorite tracks by her are:
Her Picture Matches Mine
Crumbs Off The Table
Two Lonely Pillows
[[If You Want To Try Love Again) Remember Me
I'll Catch You When You Fall
Don't Leave Me Starving For Your Love
I Can't Make It Alone
Every Little Bit Hurts
At Last
Guess Who I Saw Today
Love And Liberty
Pretty much most tracks from her HDH Hot Wax & Invictus recordings.
NOTE: I played my 2-CD Edsel set containing all 3 of Laura Lee's HDH albums and, boy, did they sound great! I had temporarily forgotten how enjoyable Laura Lee's Hot Wax and Invictus recordings are.

Hi Woodward!
The Day is also mentioned in the article.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information on that event -

Hi Woodward.
It would be good if we did have the 1974 day details, I'll have to dig out what I have.
I have nearly all of the Hot Wax records, and there is next to nothing after 1973, however what do you think about this "ONE" ?

Hi Heikki
A Record staring "Angelo Bond" Music Merchant the same with Brian Holland for Holland-Dozier-Holland. It was a "DJ Copy Not For Sale" I have not seen another 45 copy? Not a date other than the MM7-106-85-A [1985?]
If you need the record music I presume I can send it to you?
Hi Heikki
PS: If you don't have the "Angelo Bond" Album I can send you a CD.

Hi Graham!
Thank you for your kind offers.
Angelo himself said that the X record was released, and also the discogs information below seems to prove it:
https://www.discogs.com/release/2226...t-The-X-In-Sex.
I listened to this track on YouTube.
I bought The Bondage album right after its release, and I like it very much.
Best regards

Hi Graham!
You really seem to be a big H.B. fan.
I only have a couple of his albums and a few singles.
If I'm doing a story on an artist that H.B. was involved with, I try to talk to H.B. as well, because from him I get valid information.
He has a great memory and a good sense of humour, too.
When I asked why he hasn't recorded anything on himself after the mid-70s, he answered "I can't sing", and laughed out loud after that and continued: "It was just fun, but I'm not a singer. I like to be the support person."
I've talked to H.B. for my articles on O.C. Smith, Al Wilson and The Checkmates Ltd., at least.
Best regards
Heikki
Hi Heikki
I'm happy if you would like the H.B. tracks. These will be 1961 to 1967.
Just let me know.
Graham
