Didn't we hear that there would also be a CD version of this with added tracks? If so, can someone provide details on that?

Not sure but it will be fairly soon after the LP as far as I'm aware - this is a release to test the market and I'm sure if it does reasonably well there will be plenty of others to follow plans are afoot for some really exciting titles.

You mean, like, MARY WELLS "Vintage Stock" with both mono & stereo versions on 1 CD ??? Can really get excited about that one.

Would also like a few others done along the same lines, DANCE PARTY, MICKEY'S MONKEY, Four Tops' SECOND ALBUM, to name but a few essentials. And using the original mono album versions, not cost-cutting fold-downs of the stereo LP - if it's done that way, it will sure as hell be spotted.

Others here, are sure to have a few suggestions too...

Despite having all these tracks I'll still be buying the CD version. I feel so starved of anything Motown over the last few years I'd even buy the best of the Abbey Tavern Singers.

How great would it be to have the complete Cellarful series on vinyl, along with with the complete Unreleased download series, 62-69. Just to hear the needle touchdown on the vinyl for the first time..

Perhaps The Elgins/Saundra Mallet Edwards True Fine Boy has been found.

  15. #15
Edwin Starr....his version of a Detroit classic.

  16. #16
Blinky, 'If I Were Your Woman'.

Sadly according to DFTMC there are no vocals on either version just the great band track.

I see that Frank Wilson's version of 'Tell Me' can be found online. I don't believe it's been officially issued anywhere.

It's not Frank Wilson, he never recorded it. It's the Versatiles, early 5th Dimension. Never released.

  25. #25
    Isn`t it the Vows.

  26. #26
No, the unreleased version is by the Versatiles. Totally different and much much better as you will hear if you look for the so called Frank Wilson version.

My apologies copley. Now I`m confused [[usual) The released version is by the Vows, this "Frank Wilson" one is actually the Versatiles am I correct?

  30. #30
I`ve got it! Roger, just read the material available! Thank you for the clip lucky.

  31. #31
I hope this vinyl release does really well... so that there will be a CD version released! Hopefully the Edwin Starr versions of "Real Humdinger" and "S.O.S. [Scott's On Swingers] - alternate version" will make it to CD. Although I have all the CD releases of "Cellarful" [volumes 1-5], I would buy a CD version of this vinyl release to support the cause. As has always been the case, we don't get more releases unless the sales are there.

As soon as anyone knows a release date for a CD version, please share!

Congratulations, Paul, on these exciting releases! You're still making it happen for us!

Yes indeed, the 'Frank Wilson' version is actually the Versatiles.

  33. #33
Thanks copley a new track for the collection! I believe that they may have a version of "Sweeter As The Days Go By" in the can.

Do you mean the Versatiles? Don't think so Roger.

  36. #36
For years now I`ve jotted down unreleased tracks by artists when I`m researching and I have written down "Sweeter As The Days Go By" it has an A alongside meaning an acetate was made and "Tell Me Baby" which I missed as "Tell Me".I`ve read this somewhere, I have not made it up. Is Marc Gordon still around?

  37. #37
If it had existed Roger I know a man who would have it and he doesn't! Marc died in 2010 aged 74.

  38. #38
It`s strange that I would note down something as obscure as this and that I noted it was an acetate and the other song albeit with a longer title exists. I`m sorry about the death of Marc Gordon. I live in hope as we`re repeatedly told "Never Say Never"

  39. #39
Yes 'never say never' Roger. I have made lists in the past too of so called unreleased tracks and sometimes got it badly wrong. For years I was convinced that the Elgins recorded a version of 'Remove This Doubt' and even argued with HW about it!

  40. #40
I didn`t have that Elgins song on my list although I do have "Going Down For The Third Time" [[some people just can`t get enough) by the Elgins!

  41. #41
The Versatiles Is not the correct record for "Tell Me". The correct record is from "Frank Wilson" and it is for the "Vows". Frank Wilson has also played his incredible song "Tell Me", just so that it is the correct version [See Frank's copy on You Tube].

    Frank's copy superb! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2FUzWDcM4o
The V.I.P. Record 1965 is the correct record made from "Gordon & Wilson" .

But if you have never heard the "Vows" version [OMG incredible] well worth it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcyaLh9rWGE

[I have twenty tracks for the Versatiles From 1962-63 up to 1967, that then became the 5th Dimension, I'm not aware of any of Frank's tracks for "Versatiles" ?]

Sorry to say this but you are wrong there are two tracks attributed to the Versatiles in the Motown vaults and this is one of them - if Frank Wilson ever did a demo of the song [[and there's no eveidence to say he did) this is not it.

  43. #43
Thanks Paul. I have had the Versatiles version for years.

You know Graham, I have difficulty in understanding a lot of your posts, and this one is no exception. It often comes over to me, as a some sort of gobbledegook. You need to be clearer, in what you are saying, please, please, please.... cos they sort of look interesting, and I feel like I'm missing out, somewhere.

Vinyl isn't for me, but I would add a CD to my collection, even if it repeats previous tracks. That Edwin Starr track could be a real humdinger. Thanks to all involved in these releases

  46. #46
P.S. I've lost the plot on the situation with The Vows, Versatiles, Frank Wilson and anyone else and who did what.

What news on a release date for this... anyone??

I too, want a CD version, even if it repeats previous tracks.

Not surprised. Don't think I got the plot from the outset, let alone lost it LOL. Someone please enlighten us.

  49. #49
As Paul said Frank Wilson never recorded 'Tell Me'. The Vows have the only released version. The Versatiles [[aka 5th Dimension) version is still unreleased and was incorrectly uploaded to YT as being by Frank. One incorrect posting was taken down and now it's back up with the proper accreditation - well almost!
