Anthony, years ago I read that Motown was counting on Martha's "Wild One" being a huge hit, just as "Dancing In The Street" was. When "Wild One " reached only #34 on the Hot 100, Motown changed the album title to "Dance Party". [[Personally, I've loved "Wild One" from the first time I heard it. I even got the single for my birthday back in March 1965! I never understood why "Wild One" didn't go at least Top Ten, as "Dancing In The Street" did.
I don't know why they didn't just call it Dancing In The Street. It was a monster hit single, Martha's biggest seller
I never found Wild One to be that great a song and I am probably the only person on the planet that thinks Nowhere to Run is twice the song that Dancing in the Street is.
I'm also a big fan of the "Nowhere To Run" so much better than "Dancing In The Street" [still good though]. I have three "Nowhere To Run" tracks for "Martha & The Vandellas"
Her first in 1965 [2.52] her next Olympia Music Hall Paris April 1965 [2.57] & final Festival Tokyo 1968 [3.05].
Don't forget the Isley Bros, there's is the greatest of them all! [Sorry but still love Martha & The Vandellas]

I personally LOVED "Wild One" but it was not as big a hit, I think because just like "Live Wire" the track needed to be a little slower for the melody to resonate.I love the "Dance Party" LP, not the LP cover...I think the song was considered to be a single release thus the name of the LP.
"Wild One" for me, above both "Dancing In The Street" and "Nowhere To Run".
Martha wrote in her biography, Dancing in the Street: Confessions of a Motown Diva, that Motown failed to strongly promote the single which caused the song to stall on the charts. Like other opinions expressed here Nowhere to Run was the favorite of the singles from this LP for me.
I never cared for 'Wild One'! 'Dancing in the Street' is good but 'Nowhere to Run' is far superior. Just my opinion of course.
Nowhere to Run might be my all time favorite Martha and the Vandellas single. Possibly matched by I'm Ready for Love. Can't decide. Must go listen to both.
I liked them all. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would be "Nowhere To Run". The let-downs for me, are the U.S. jacket-front [[the U.K.'s front is so much better), and the not-so-good STEREO LP - can we please have the superior MONO version on CD sometime soon!!
Or, better still, a re-issue on CD, with the MONO LP coupled with the STEREO version, quickly followed by Mary Wells "Vintage Stock" LP released on CD, along the same lines. Perhaps something for Ace Records to consider.
