What a rare and fun video, Bayou! Thanks! Mary had several hits before leaving Motown for greener pastures. It's a shame that so few videos exist of her.
FANTASTIC!!!!!!
First one I've ever seen and God Bless- "Mary"
That improves the song considerably.
You can tell she wasn't accustomed to much TV work. Her eyes keep looking off camera for directions. So young, so sweet.
I hope you HAVE seen her great performance of "Never, Never Leave Me" on Hullabaloo TV show from 1965.She is singing LIVE to a track, but it is not the recorded 45 or LP track.
You mean this one, Tony?

yep, that's it.That gown was pink with little white chandeliers hanging on the sleeves. She set the pace for all the others. Thanks for posting, Gary.
You're very welcome, Tony. You've got me curious here! Mary's performance was broadcast in black & white. How did you know that her gown was pink with white trim? Also, I'm surprised that Mary was promoting "Never Neve Leave Me", as I've always thought that "Why Don't You Let Yourself Go" was the intended A-side.
I saw the gown hanging in her closet when she & Cecil had moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1971."Never, Never Leave Me" was the A side getting up to #53 on Billboard Hot 100 & #13 on the Soul Charts.Should have been a much bigger hit. 20th Century Fox was not good at the record company game at that time PLUS Barney Ales[[Motown VP) had an "in" with radio & distributors.
If that video is from 1965, it seems strange that Mary is promoting a Motown from 63, she left in 1964
Yes, the video of "Two Lovers" is from 1965 TV Show "Where The Action Is", she did other songs on the show. Her look is 1965 as well.
Ok..in that case, I'm surprised that Motown gave permission for her to use the original recordings, as were often told that Berry tried to ruin her career
Mr. Gordy didn't it was Barney Ales that had the "in" with radio and the record distributors.
So why did Motown give permission for use of their recordings..strange
I don't think they had to get permission , just like radio, they just have to pay the publisher & songwriters.
Is this the same pink [magenta?] dress she wore on that episode of "Hullabaloo", Tony? It looks similar, but...?

Wow! What a neat photo of Mary! She looks great in that color gown.
it does look similar but the one on Hullabaloo was PINK, the above looks more purple to me.The only old ones I saw in her closet was the pink one from Hullabaloo & an orange one from 1966 that the bottom of the long gown swayed.on the inside of the gown was sewed in "Designed Exclusively for Mary Wells".

the more I look at it , it might be the same gown, just different lighting.
