    Too long to copy!

Elemental Music employed DMM [[Direct Metal Mastering) processes, cutting directly from high-rez digital files of the original master tapes. The LPs in this ongoing Motown Sound Collection 140g virgin vinyl series have been manufactured at GZ in the Czech Republic, reportedly using PrismSound and Orfeus 24-bit converters in tandem with Neumann VMS-82 DMM cutting systems.

It's interesting that they are using the transfers that were done in the 80's. While those CD's that came out in the 80's are considered to be superior by many audiophiles due to being more dynamic, their lack of compression, etc., compared to newer remasters...I would have thought that UMG would have more recent high-res digital transfers [[unremastered) from the tapes, that were used for the newer CD/digital releases? Couldn't those have been used for these vinyl releases? The equipment back in the 80's wouldn't allow for the most high-rez transfer from the tapes, compared to what we have now.

That being said, while I have supported these Elemental Motown vinyl reissues, I have to agree with the review in the above article. The sound has been all over the place. Just going from memory, my copy of the Vandellas' Watchout was a bit too amped up, compared to the original, resulting in some slight distortion. However, I remember their reissue of More Hits By The Supremes sounded a bit thin to me, in terms of the mids and bass. I had to adjust my dials on my receiver to compensate. Not bad but not as great as the original.
