"The Undisputed Truth" [1971 Debut Album] [LP-2/28/2025-Kent/Ace UK]

    Info from Ace Records UK:

Amazingly this fantastic album has not been repressed since 1972. Thus Ace are delighted to put it back into the record racks pressed on 180gm black vinyl. With the planet still a ‘Ball Of Confusion [That’s What The World Is Today]’ records like speak to both an old and new generation. Good music never goes out of fashion.

    Side 1
    1. "You Got The Love I Need"
    2. "Save My Love For A Rainy Day"
    3. "California Soul"
    4. "Aquarius"
    5. "Ball Of Confusion [That's What The World Is Today]"

    Side 2
    1. "Smiling Faces Sometimes"
    2. "We've Got A Way Out Love"
    3. "Since I've Lost You"
    4. "Ain't No Sun Since You've Been Gone"
    5. "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"
    6. "Like A Rolling Stone"

PS: I should've placed this post on the Motown Forum. My Mistake!

I remember buying this on vinyl when I was still at school, and it has always remained one of my firm favourites from Motown [[along with Stevie Wonder presents... Syreeta). If my memory is correct, the Undisputed Truth's first single in the UK was 'Save my love for a rainy day' which wasn't a success - but I thought it was brilliant.
I don't rate Bob Dylan [[as a singer or writer) although I think "Like a rolling stone" is amazing on this LP.
When this LP was issued on CD - I was delighted and bought it at the first opportunity.

The Undisputed Truth were a group who I don't believe ever received the accolade that they deserved - although luckily all their Motown LP releases have been available on CD.

My favorite song by the Truth is Law of the Land. I really like that drum solo [[tympani maybe?) in the middle.

I Love The Undisputed Truth's version of "Law Of The Land" [and I think the tympani break in the song is really the icing on the cake]. I also think their version is much better than The Temptations take on the song from the Masterpiece LP.

    I wholeheartedly agree.

Both version are excellent tracks, in my opinion.

I agree with you that The Undisputed Truth's version is the best.

This is interesting, as Elemental just reissued this album on vinyl in November. However, I'm willing to bet that the Ace/Kent version will be better. I'm almost tempted to get both, just to compare.

It seems the Elemental release is available mostly only in the US/CAN, and the Ace/Kent release will be available in the UK/EU.

I contacted Elemental last year about this and Jorge from Elemental confirmed this.

I picked up the Elemental vinyl reissue two weeks ago. Overall, they did a decent job - I do think a lot of the "soul" has been toned down in the vocals - they seem pretty recessed across the board. However the arrangements and production are well presented, very detailed and nuanced. I think that comparing the vinyl reissue to the cd reissue may be like comparing apples and oranges.
