Hi all,

So I know I asked this a number of years ago, but I can't find the thread to save my life so I'm starting a new one...

On many of the foreign language recordings Motown cut over the years, a lot of the background vocals have this odd, almost robotic quality. I'm thinking of the Supremes' recordings, in particular.

For instance, "Thank You Darling, Thank You Baby" [[which I wish would have been recorded in English!)

"Moonlight and Kisses" [[another fantastic tune)

And "Se il filo si spezzara," their Italian reading of "You Keep Me Hangin' On."

Florence and Mary sound wonderful, but I'm just wondering what the recording techniques used were to create this kind of sound. Also why did they chose to create this sound?

Thanks!
