Dionne Warwick No Night So Long Question

I have the David Nathan re-issued CD version with three bonus tracks. However on the back of the case in the lower left corner there is a circular seal that says "Two Classic Albums on One CD."

Of course that is wrong because it is simply an expanded version of one album. Does this mistake exist on all copies or is this something rare?

I was hoping that someone would be able to shed some light on this situation. Just to clarify, I am not talking about something that an owner might have written or a hype sticker. Instead it is a manufacturer's imprint. It is about the size of a quarter and inside the circle is the official Soul Music logo in purple. Then around the outside is the statement I mentioned.

So do any of you have your own copy of this CD so you can compare and see if yours has this same imprint? If so, thanks for checking.

I looked up the edition of Dionne's No Night So Long that you have and couldn't find anything on it. Discogs had only the front cover image of the CD [and it's not listed on the Cherry Red website]. Can't tell you if that 'two classic albums on one CD' seal exists on all copies of it.

I don't have this particular version of the reissue by David Nathan's label, but I found one on eBay and it has the same error that you mentioned, David ...

David, I just checked my copy and it's the same as yours. Although some of David Nathan's reissues are indeed 2-fers, Dionne's "No Night So Long" isn't one of them. It's merely Expanded.

Thanks Gary. On a related note, i am now working my way through the awesome 12 CD Arista set as I make my rounds around town. I am currently on Finders of Lost Love, which is probably my second favorite of her Arista albums, after the 1979 "Dionne" album.

You're very welcome, David. Dionne's "Finders Of Lost Love" is among my very favorite of her albums. The title track should have been a huge hit, as should "Run To Me" -- her duet with Barry Manilow. Tracks like "Love Doesn't Live Here Any More" and "You Made Me Want To Love Again" are also hard-hitters. Every track on there is a winner, including DW's two duets with Stevie Wonder. Just an all-around perfect album from start to finish. Oh, and the album cover is possibly one of Dionne's very best photos ever!

The reason you cannot find it on Cherry Red's website is that this particular incarnation of SoulMusic Records was with Passion/Expansion at the time - I think it was before it moved to Caroline and then Cherry Red

Agree completely. YMMWTLA is simply awesome. And I agree that the artwork was cool as well.

I had forgotten about that gigantic CD box set of Dionne's! I didn't buy it, as I already had every one of her CDs which I bought one at a time as they were being released.

BTW, David, what do you think of Dionne's Warner Brothers albums? Personally, I love each and every one of them. Their consistent failure to chart is one of the mysteries of life that I'll never understand. How could tracks like "Do You Believe In Love At First Sight", "His House And Me", "Once You Hit The Road", etc., all fail so miserably? It's inconceivable to me.

I have had discussions with friends over the years about the three major phases of Dionne's career.......meaning Scepter, WB, and Arista. I seem to be the only person in the world that would put her Scepter material at the bottom of that list.

Yes the songs were nice, the melodies were great, the lyrics were well-done, but her maturity and the increased emphasis on production were so much more evident on the other two labels. I prefer her Arista material for the most part, but I agree that some of the WB albums were great too.

The 1972 Dionne album and the final one Love at First Sight were by far the best. As you mentioned Do You Believe was a terrific song. I even have it featured on a Beach Music CD and I would have never thought of Dionne as being a beach music artist.

However, for me hands down one of her all-time classic songs was I Just Have to Breathe, from the Dionne album. I could listen to that song all day long. The entire album is terrific because the social consciousness songs are also great.

As for the WB albums in between those two......well they just don't stand out for me. Some good songs here and there but nothing outstanding. I did however enjoy that CD released a few years ago that featured the vault material from the WB years. That had some awesome songs that should have never been left hidden for so long.

Speaking of which, another fantastic Dionne song, although I am not sure what period it came from, was Loving You is Just an Old Habit. That is another song I could listen to all day long.
