Questlove to direct “definitive” Earth Wind & Fire documentary

    From SoulTracks.com-

Questlove, the talented leader and drummer of The Roots and Oscar-winning director has announced on social media that he will be directing a “definitive” documentary on the iconic group, Earth Wind & Fire. September 21 has been lovingly dubbed “Earth Wind & Fire” day by fans because of the opening line of the group’s hit single, “September,” so it appeared to be a perfect time for the announcement.

The guy is talented, there is no doubt, and I wish him every success in a project featuring one of my favorite bands, but I have a problem with a guy who names himself "Questlove".

A little something that many people do not know. Back in the pre-1960's there was a group called Lee Andrews and the Hearts from Philadelphia. Actually they were "one of the finest R&B groups of the '50s, Lee Andrews & the Hearts could have been one of the best pop groups too if white radio had been more open to black vocalists in those days." Long Lonely Nights as well as Teardrops by the group are everlasting.

The fact of the matter is that Questlove is the son of Lee Andrews of L A & the Hearts. Now I am certain some people have heard of the group. Fabulous sounds.

Betcha didn't know that, did you?

Well, I knew that. Lee Andrews & The Hearts' "Long Lonely Nights" & "Teardrops" are two of my favorite Doo Wop/Vocal Group songs from the '50s ["Long Lonely Nights" was also recorded by Clyde McPhatter].

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Questlove's documentary on EWF [not to mention his documentary on Sly & The Family Stone which is said to be near completion].
