James Earl Jones has passed away at 93

    From usatoday.com:

James Earl Jones, whose acting career was every bit as rich and resonant as the iconic bass voice that gave sinister malevolence to Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" films, died Monday. He was 93.
Jones' representative Barry McPherson confirmed the actor's death in a statement to USA TODAY. A cause of death was not disclosed.

It was really sad to hear this news yesterday.

I've enjoyed his work so often over the years, particularly in CLAUDINE. I was also lucky enough to see him many times on Broadway. May he R.I.P.

Feels like a relative is gone. The Great White Hope will always be his finest hour, IMHO. Well done, sir..

Rest in peace. I recall watching an interview with Courtney B. Vance, where he described James Earl Jones as a wonderful mentor and gave him a ton of credit for Vance's career success. In the interview, he called him "Jimmy" and my mind was blown. I never considered how Jones' friends and loved ones considered him because I always thought of him as near-royalty and calling him "Jimmy" was as sacrilegious in my mind as calling Barack Obama "Barry". But Obama's loved ones call him "Barry" and Jones' loved ones knew him as "Jimmy" because they had entire lives outside the public view.

I was jealous to think that he was "Jimmy" to anybody but it made him more human than he was before.

He was that high in my mind and he will be missed. My prayers go out to his family and I hope that they remember him for the joy of a 93-year old well-lived life and not the pain that they feel at its closing.
