This is some wonderful behind the scenes footage of Sister Sledge during a photo shoot. They're interviewed individually [[sometimes you can't hear well because of background music/noise. They're playful with each other, they look amazing and Debbie Sledge is looking extra FINE, FINE!!! There are spontaneous acapella outbursts of songs by The Andrew Sisters, Aretha and some of their own songs.
This video is from the early 2000's and they were shooting for a magazine spread. In 2003 there was a soft release of a cd "Style" that featured all four on the cover but only one song with Kathy on lead which was a beautiful rendition of the Nat King Cole standard "When I Fall In Love".
The thing is that in the late 90's they were having "issues". Kathy was traveling with her version of Sister Sledge and Joni was traveling with hers and it sometimes included Debbie and/or some other ladies including the late Linda Howard of the Motown group High Inergy. Kim had been a part of both versions of the group. Fast forward to around 2015, Debbie, Joni & Kim sued Kathy to forbid her from using the group's name and since they were performing as a group at the time they won even though Kathy lead most of their hits. Joni passes away in 2017. Kathy, Debbie and Kim sang together at her memorial service, which was a first in years. Many, including myself thought that this would be the beginning of a long overdue reunion. Boy, was I wrong. Kathy became even more vocal publicly about her strained relationship with her sisters. Since Joni was now deceased the sisters went back to court regarding the trademark of the name. This time around they were both granted use of the name. Debbie who now performs with her daughter and son, Joni's son and a young lady named Tanya were granted Sister Sledge featuring Sledgendary and Kathy was granted Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge. Kim has released a children's book and seems to not be interested in the stage at least for now. This video is a reminder of not only what was but what could've been.
