I am not sure if any of you have been following my reports on that Top 200 Songs of the 1970s countdown on AXS TV, but in last night's episode, they counted from number 60 down to number 41. The songs being chosen have been heavily rock-oriented, but at least "some" soul songs are sneaking in there on occasion.

Ray Charles was the first last night, coming in somewhere in the mid 50s with his version of America the Beautiful. Edwin Starr's War was number 46 I believe, and then James Brown charted a couple of spots higher with Get Up Off That Thing. That one surprised me because I did not think it was one of his bigger hits and it certainly is not one that gets much airplay on Sirius XM.

So next week's two shows will count from 40 down to 21, and then the following Tuesday will wrap it up. Surely some more soul and Motown songs will get enough respect to crack the top 40!
