A little off the beaten path

This October Soulful Detroit will be 23 years old, and except for varying subjects found in the Club House we have always been about music. Time to expand our horizons a bit. Right now, the United States is embroiled in a hot contest for the Presidency. I make no apologies for being a life long Democrat.
How could I not be? I was raised in a Blue Collar family. My father worked for The Ford Motor Company. An uncle was president for the Detroit UAW. My blood runs Blue.

I am interested to know what you forum members think of the situation. I am especially interested in hearing from our friends outside of the United States. Things are rowdy right now, but I am betting on a Democrat blow out making Kamala Harris our next president.

With a healthy helping of cautious optimism, I'd say you're right, Ralph. It feels as though a sleeping giant has awakened, and a major feeling of optimism, joy, and we've-had-enough-of-the-divisiveness is in the air, the likes of which we've not seen since 2008. And Kamala and Tim seem to be on a glide-path, side-stepping all the nonsense with grace and aplomb. Let's pray. WE'RE NOT GOING BACK!!!

I think both major political parties in USA are beholden to big money. Otherwise USA would have universal healthcare from a one source provider and, and a better education system with better access to SERIOUS higher education for at least for those students who achieve at a high level, and more healthy food would be available at levels people can easily afford. As little help The Democrats provide, they are a lot more responsive to the people's needs. So, I'd rather have them win, than The Republicans. But, really , the entire US political system needs to change. Only 2 parties being able to ever win, with both beholden to big money is a disaster.

I think that The Democrats can win IF they work really hard at the ground level to get the vote out like they did to get Biden in. It will take a tremendous amount of work, in many states, but I believe they can do it.

As a life-long Democrat, I'm standing with Kamala Harris for the Presidency.

Thanks, Ralph. I think most of us around here are standing tall. I hope I'm doing my tiny part here.

    Hi Ralph,

As requested, and with greetings from the UK - England, to be precise....

From this distance, you might excuse me for judging on screen image alone, as presented in the media. And I think that would be similar to many of the American voters.

Donald Trump must have his own good points and talents, but his general image over here, at least to me [and you did ask], has always been very poor.

He too readily wishes to present himself as resolutely negative and boorish. There's almost an element of a Disney villain about it all. That said, the assassination attempt on his life was very concerning. He didn't deserve that experience.

If Donald Trump's public persona image continues in the same vein, he is making it much easier for the American public to decide to choose the other candidate. He will lose the election for his party.

While Kamala Harris, in comparison, is much more of an 'unknown', she is starting to show very strongly.

If I choose to forget about how the US public currently approves of the two candidates, Kamala Harris looks like someone who could sweep decisively into the White House, although there is a way to go yet.

It just depends if America wants to go forward and vote with perhaps a leap of faith, or be extremely conservative, effectively take a retrograde step and stick with Donald Trump....and of course, any successor.

Here in the UK we have already had three female prime ministers, and all within the reign of Queen Elizabeth, as our ceremonial head of state.

So go for it, America......vote for your first female President.

I would be looking forward to President Kamala Harris's first state visit to meet King Charles, our Monarch in a new era for ourselves.

West. According to the news here in the States, Europeans are very concerned about any success chump might have in the coming election.

  12. #12
    Yes, Ralph.....

For example, concern following his comments about Ukraine and NATO.....

And the impression that Donald Trump may be making off-the-cuff remarks, and which have not been carefully thought through....or discussed with those who have a far more detailed knowledge of what is involved....

  13. #13
Well you guys in Europe realize chump is crazy and totally incompetent.

This story is worth it's weight in gold.

This is a classic IMO. She was a lot older than him but a far more intelligent and educated person to come to this conclusion. Priceless in my opinion.

She should have had him thrown into London Tower.

Today I read in the news that Europe [[and Holland where I am from, especially) are preparing a strategy for when Trump will be president again. Again he promises to raise taxes on imports from Europe. Holland is a big export country so that might mean less income.

I'm British and I just don't see anything about Donald Trump that would make me want to vote for him.

I travel outside the US frequently and the common response to a second DJT is that he is something of a scary joke who would damage the stability of the planet. Even more so, the cronies bowing to clean his rear end are equally as dangerous. The stress of his current legal troubles and his uncertainty of his success are likely to take a toll on his health preventing him from getting to the White House or even completing a second term. His minions would probably entrench the goals of Project 2025 upsetting the functions of government and loading the judiciary with right wing fanatics.

This idiot hasn't presented a platform detailing his agenda for the country. I fail to understand why people, particularly in the poorest states [[sunbelt) are prepared to support a candidate misaligned with their financial interests and well being. This shows a failure of our education systems to teach the critical thinking that would allow all to develop informed conclusions. As for the two party system, I tend to always go with the democrats choosing the devil who's whip delivers the lesser sting.

'LONDON — Donald Trump on Thursday angrily dismissed a claim that Queen Elizabeth II found him “very rude” — and described himself instead as the late monarch’s “favorite president.” '

'A “Voyage Around The Queen” — a new biography by writer Craig Brown serialized in the Daily Mail this week — offers a damning verdict on the former U.S. president, who has spoken frequently of his admiration for Elizabeth II.'

'"A few weeks after President Trump’s visit, for instance, she confided in one lunch guest that she found him ‘very rude’: she particularly disliked the way he couldn’t stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting.”
    -------
'Speaking to the Daily Mail in an interview shared Thursday, Trump said: “I have no idea who the writer is, but it was really just the opposite. I had a great relationship with the queen. She liked me and I liked her.”

'And he added: “We spent hours together at a state dinner. She was a fantastic woman. I think it’s a shame that a sleaze bag can write an article that’s totally false. In fact, I’ve heard always the opposite.” '

'I heard I was her favorite president, and you’ve heard that too. She would say it to a lot of people.” '
