I love hearing someone else's selections. It helps to discover other tracks that didn't hit me the first time.

This is always an excellent show Larry. You showcase a blend of Motown material, much of which is rare and unreleased, and you give any Motown fan a full hour every week of the lesser known high quality Motown with informative and non intrusive commentary. You have a lot of listeners out here. SDF members are the perfect target audience. Thanks for all your time, freely given and much appreciated.

I did..I had to go to Radio Manchester but I got there in the end. Poor Rita Wright got spliced in two!

Priorities first......thank you for featuring the Velvelettes. :-)

I like shows like these when I can hear someone else's selections. It takes me back to those magical days of yesteryear when we would go to each other's house after school to listen to a new acquistion. I remember one school mate getting Motown Magic and we raved over some of the tracks we didn't know well for weeks.

I also get to listen to tracks that I haven't played for a long time and when you hear them on the radio, the sound is so much fuller and better.

    Loved the show Larry.

    Thanks John
North Manchester fm is a local community station that is basically a 1 man operation, working 2 days a week.As such, it does a great job, but problems arise from time to time with techhie stuff, and it goes wrong occasionally.
    Hope it gets sorted soon

    Thanks..hope you enjoyed the show

I did.! I prefer to hear a mix of a variety of artists rather than the same one over and over, that to me is radio and the duty of a DJ.
And I like your approach .....more music less talk.

  20. #20
    Thanks boogiedown

It's all about spreading the word, and introducing people to 'new' sounds...and not too much talk

how about that ....cleaning while listening, counters done ...but on comes PET NAMES .... as I've got a pot of apples on the stove becoming applesauce....synchronicity .

  29. #29
So I had to look this one up ....when was SOUNDS OF THE ZODIAC released and was it a bit of a SHAFT inspired knock off?

But it turns out it was released before SHAFT ....but it was just a few months earlier that same year.

Makes me ask if Isaac hadn't given this recent tune a spin or two .....or is my imagination overactive this time around ...

    makes me go, hmmmm

also this was my favorite discovery from this week's show:

    I keep playing it.

Hello Boogiedown..hope you are enjoying the show.
Your Shaft comments are interesting. The Gordon Staples tracks were recorded about 1970/71...but Motown gave permission to a movie production to use the tracks some years later..a Shaft type movie.." Mean Johnny Barrow".
I'm sure youtube / wikipedia will have details.

...youtube has the whole film ...vocals at the beginning and end are Motown's Devastating Affair...!
