Back on August 9th, over on the Motown forum, I mentioned the birthday for the late great Wanda Rogers. I have since learned that the same day was the 77th birthday for the still active Trudy Lynn.
She is known as Houston's First Lady of the Blues and has had a lengthy career singing those blues. Her finest output was in the 90s on the now-defunct Ichiban label, but she made a nice comeback on the Connor Ray Music label with four rapid-fire critically-acclaimed CDs between 2013 and 2018, one of which reached the number one spot on Billboard's Top Blues Albums chart.
Her most recent CD, Golden Girl, was released in 2022 on a fairly new label called Nola Blue Records. To the best of my knowledge, she is still with them, so hopefully there is more to come. I had the pleasure of seeing her live at a festival that also had the awesome group Mississippi Heat about five years ago.
It was hot as blue blazes that day but both acts put on a terrific show. Best wishes Trudy and keep singing the blues as only you can!
