That little energetic ball of fire named Dionne Warwick criss-crossed the state of Virginia, which is not an easy task by the way, and performed shows on consecutive nights in Virginia Beach and Orkney Springs. I am sure some of you are saying "Orkney WHATTT" but it is the well-established and well-respected home of the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival. In the past they have featured the Temps, Tops and many other favorites. For example, Mavis Staples was also on the docket for this summer's series of shows. Here's a link to the Festival's Facebook page, which features photos from her show: https://www.facebook.com/svmusicfest/
I have never been to any of their shows but I am told it is a very attractive, quaint little outdoor venue, and based on the photos, it looks like it was a perfect fit for Dionne's playful exuberance, as you will see displayed in her cool denim outfit and baseball cap. But these days, she has earned the right to be comfortable on any and all occasions.
Her warm-up act was a young lady named Rissi Palmer, whom I am not familiar with, but based on what I have since read, she is quite the established singer in her own right with a unique blend of country and R & B. Sorry I cannot give a personal testimonial to this show, but hats off to any one in her 80s, who would do a show at the beach on a Thursday night and travel 300 miles out into the mountains to do one the very next night. Hope you will enjoy these photos and catch her when you can!
