As information Sammy explained that "Sammy Ward" was his stage name that he created out of his admiration for Sammy Davis, Jr. and the gospel singer, Clara Ward.

6 of Sammy's songs are in the 20 song collection Motown's Blue Evolution CD that was released in 1996. The other 14 in the set consists of Arthur Adams; Earl King; Mable John; Luther Allison; and Amos Milburn.
It's a nice collection of blues songs.
