A brief but great review of Mary's show at the Riviera in las Vegas.

Scroll down to the bottom of the article for Mary's review.

Wish the crowd had been larger but being the pro that she is Miss Wilson gave the audience 120%.

    Here's the review

If you are close by, this is a chance to see and probably talk to Mary. I wish I was there.

Vintage Vegas. It’s still out there, but you have to find it. Sometimes it’s sitting right next to you. That happened at the O’Toole show, when I walked up the aisle toward the bar and noticed, seating on a displaced bar stool, former Supreme Mary Wilson. She is just finishing a headlining run at the Riviera, and I caught her show this week. She is a smooth performer with a rich voice, still, at age 67. But the audience was not strong, maybe 100 in the house, if that.

Nonetheless, Wilson and her backing band performed as if they were playing for several thousand, unleashing a string of Supremes hits and even unexpected numbers -- Sting’s “Fields of Gold” among them.

Look at it as a way to set the table for future engagements, and remind those who really study entertainment in this city what Vintage Vegas is all about.

Been to Vegas many, many times.
For the Riviera, that kind of count equals to a dismal failure.
My wife has relatives that work for a business that contracts shows of Miss Wilson's calibre.
She will have to do vastly better than this to be asked back to perform in casinos of this type.
Vegas has been hit hard by the economy and only unique, high energy performance acts will get bills paid.
Oldies acts by some 70 year old singers don't wow crowds into spending big money.
    Wilson is no "Rat Pack".
She'll need Ross, and then some, to stir any "wow" factor.

Mary played the Starlight room which isn't cavernous to say the least and specializes in entertainment acts appealing to the 70 year olds so I'm sure management wasn't disappointed to say the least. She also won't need to get bundles of twenties from the casino cashier to tear up and hand out halfs to tourists on the street to lure them in promising the other half after the show to keep her act going for future bookings before anyone else On this forum goes there.......

There are a lot of people Marys age who WISH they could play Vegas. True musicians know they are lucky to get the kind of gigs Mary Wilson gets at her age. I think its a good thing she never got big enough [[as a solo) to fill 10,000 seat arenas because when you become a star of that magnitude its a harder pill to swallow. Mary can play a 2000 seater or a 100 seater and put on the same quality show. Besides its not the number of people who show up although that helps you get paid regardless. Lots showing up just means that you are an attraction and they will probably ask you back. When Mary comes to Blues Alley in DC she always sells out the 1st and 2nd show and some of the same people come back for the 2nd show. Depending on the club they make their money on the dinners and drinks not necessarily the ticket sales that probably covers her fee I dont know. She has been coming there for years. I know when Antons 1201 was open she drew a crowd there. She doesnt have to worry she has enough places that will ask her to come back and they love her overseas as well. With her looks and Motown pedigree she can go a couple of more years. The economy may have something to do with it but she has been doing Vegas for a while now its nothing new to her. Besides she can go up the street since she lives there its great for her.

I would love to see Mary Wilson at a place like this; maybe I'll go Vegas in the next while.

I wonder what the attendance was like for Mary total run in Vegas. That may have been a off night.
