Those were the days, with Diana a regular on UK television during the 90’s. I always thought the song a little old fashioned, though Diana sings it to perfection.

So this gem was not her US released albums, right? I fell in love with this song when it I first heard it, and it is on my DR Favorites playlist. Thank you for posting this video of her lip-synching this for the sake of now having a clear video of this song. I have not been able to find a clear version of her original video.

It was a nice song but nothing more in my opinion. It was good promotion for the Voice of Love album which sold well over the Christmas period that year. Diana herself liked the song and she chose most of the songs for the album.

I agree, just a nice little song. I thought the sound quality on the “Voice Of Love” album to be quite poor, plus another point deducted for including the dreadful “So Close”.
The highlight for me was Diana’s version of “You Are Not Alone”, wishing MJ had gifted her the song first.

Let's not forget that YANA is not an MJ composition, but, alas, written by R. Kelly.

So he is. It makes you think what might have been had the two paired up.

Miss Ross was too old for R. Kelly's tastes. She was too old him for him if he had been around in 1964.

It was her choice to include So Close and I am me on the album. It had little to do with the actual quality of the songs, both of which were quite dreadful, but more to do with the fact that she had songwriting credits on both songs which of course meant more royalties.
She wanted her version of You are not alone to be released as a single to coincide with her UK Tour the following summer but it never happened. She was keen to work with R.Kelly around this time, but that also never happened. Not sure if that was a good or bad thing in hindsight.

In hindsight probably a good thing, It’s ironic that such a seemingly nasty individual wrote such beautiful songs. Allowing for the MJ hit, i think it might have done better then “In The One’s” You Love”, especially with all the primetime tv exposure that “Ones” received.

I agree with Ollie that in hindsight, it was definitely a good thing, considering that R. Kelly is now in jail for horrendous crimes/abuse. Even Celine Dion has distanced herself from her work with him, by removing their song, "Angel" from all streaming and digital platforms, as well as the most recent vinyl reissue of her Christmas album.

    You're most welcome, MotownManiac.
