Berry Gordy recordings by Marv Johnson issued on United Artists label.

There were a close association between Berry and the United Artists label involving Berry's production of the majority of Marv's recordings being released on the UA label. The UA releases consisted of 17 45's; 3 albums; and 2 EPs. His first Tamla release was Come to Me/Whisper on Tamla 101 which was then released on UA 160. Surely there had to be a written agreement between Berry and UA to accomplish this outcome.

Has anyone ever seen a copy of any inter-record company agreement on Marv explaining the inner dealings of both companies in as well as the terms of the agreement?

    Thanks for any input.

Check out Marv's signing up with "UA Label" as agreed by Berry Gordy.
However before Marv joined up with Berry & then agreeing signing with New York's United Artists, this is really useful and will provide an overview as to why Berry did so.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marv_Johnson

Berrys Bio " To Be Loved " on page 106 mentions that Marv would not do as twice as much as Jackie Wilson and that Marv had yet the makings of a star. Berrys bio also has 14 other mentions of Marv.

If you are not aware & prior to Marv joining up with Berry in 1958 one of the first of Marv's 45's belonged to Detroit's Robert West [who Berry also knew well].

It was from Marv's first record "My Baby-O" & "Once Upon A Time" on the KUDO label in May 1958 that became known to Berry. This was just one 45 of Robert West's eight KUDO records to also include The Falcons, Nancy Peters, Briant [Brian] Holland, Joltin' Joe Howard and others.
