Diana Nabs Grammy Nod For “Thank You”

This is a huge moment in Supremes’ Nation. I’m very proud of her because it was her vision, her idea, It appears that she guided the project every step of the way. She must be very very happy.

    Amazing!

This is wonderful! She looks like a shoo-in for it, too: easily the most recognizable name in her category and one of the few non-Christmas LPs to make the cut. Let's GOOOOO!!!!!

Here are the complete nominees for this category. I'd say Michael Buble is the front runner and Kelly Clarkson can't be discounted either.

For albums containing greater than 50% playing time of new traditional pop recordings.

    • Higher
      Michael Bublé
    • When Christmas Comes Around...
      Kelly Clarkson
    • I Dream Of Christmas [[Extended)
      Norah Jones
    • Evergreen

very excited for her and hoping that part of the reason she might win is due to her incredible legacy

but i will say that it's a little disappoint that Thank You might be what she wins a Grammy for, given her body of work

shouldn't albums like DR 70, The Boss, Baby It's Me, the Lady soundtrack, diana 80, Supremes Sing R&H, Where Did Our Love Go have been what won? i know most weren't even nominated [[another travesty)

Does one have to submit their project in order for it to be considered.

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t think much of award shows. With that said, what an incredible accomplishment for Diana. I think this is a very good album. An now it is a Grammy nominated album. The fact that she executive produced the album, and also has songwriting credits on most of the songs is something she should be proud of. An incredible feat at this point in her career.

I think the record companies submit recordings they wish to be recognized.

It is not unusual for legacy artists to win for something less than their best work. Besides, since 1980 only EDIAND and TMH were appreciably better than "Thank You." The only thing that really hurts TY is the completely unavoidable decline of her vocal quality.

I really want her to win this Grammy. I hope something/someone is pushing it amongst NARAS members.

I will admit I was wrong. I didn’t think this album was going to be nominated nor did I think it was worthy of one but the Grammys thought otherwise. That being said, I do hope she wins. She deserves more than just a Lifetime Achievement but as someone said on here, it’s a bit crazy to think she may win for this when her previous nominations were far more deserving of a win. Nonetheless, I will be cheering for her and given her competition it’s very likely she could pull this off given the others in the category are all Grammy winners. I think voters will be sentimental and give this to her.

Congratulations to Diana Ross for the Grammy Nomination! Voters will be sentimental as the award represents traditional pop music. "Thank You" is a lovely album.

Diana posted this yesterday after learning about the nomination:

Thank you so much for this unexpected gift
    Thankful ❤️
    Grateful ❤️
    Blessed ❤️

it’s not showing up but those question marks, on Twitter is actually a fingers crossed emoji.

    Diana so deserves it.

It's unfair the quantity of Grammys Beyoncé has won. And she keeps being nominated for every single category. I love some of her work but she's so overrrated.

If Beyoncé has dozens, Diana deserves at least 1 competitive Grammy.

Why Grammy voters are so obsessed with Beyoncé?

Diana wasn't the only one to get snubbed by Grammys . Connie Francis, who sold about 100 million records, and was the first female artist to hit number one on Billboard Hot 100. never got a Grammy. Nor is she in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

If she really wants to win, she should do some awesome TV appearances to promote herself. A serious and soulful televised duet with Springsteen might do the trick.

I read Katy Perry and Martina McBride are two others

They are hardly in the Ross category

Go, Miss Ross! This will be historic! She might win her first grammy, and Beyoncé, if she wins, will be the most awarded solo act! They have to take a picture together.

If Beyonce wins her category with Diana losing hers, which be the queen and who the princess?.

If “Thank You” does indeed manage to win, it would be rather nice if Decca and perhaps Diana herself try and re-promote the album to a degree.
A new single from a Grammy winning set might aid its goal. I would suggest the rather lovely “In Your Heart”.
Lack of tv exposure for the album and subsequent singles definitely let it down.

As many of you noted, "Thank You" really should not have been eligible for a nomination in the Traditional Pop category. It is original material with no standards and it is "contemporary." Still I figured if the Academy was bold enough to nominate her in the category it might signal that they wanted to award her and she might garner the votes just on name recognition. Alas, it was not to be.

Ross has another album in her. A new album of standards would do the trick. She needs to go to the studio and sing some Motown classics.
