    One More Single

Not counting specialty albums and duet albums, I Hear A Symphony, A GoGo, Sing HDH, Love Child, Right On, Touch, and MSS have in common the fact that they only contain two singles. And Cream of the Crop, New Ways and Jimmy Webb only have one single release. [[Cream does contain the charting b-side "The Young Folks".)

If you could squeeze out one more single from the highlighted albums, whether or not you believe in it's potential as a hit, what would it be?

SYMPHONY - Everything is Good About You. It was a great B-side but I think it might have been a strong A-side as well.

A GO GO - Maybe Put Yourself in My Place.

SING HDH - Going Down for the Third Time or There's No Stopping Us Now.

LOVE CHILD - I'll Set You Free or Can't Shake It Loose. Maybe Evening Train as well.

CREAM OF THE CROP - Shadows of Society.

RIGHT ON - Wait a Minute Before You Leave Me or Take a Closer Look at Me.

NWBLS - I Wish I Were Your Mirror.

TOUCH - Johnny Raven, Happy, or Its So Hard for Me to Say Goodbye.

JIMMY WEBB - Maybe 5:30 Plane.

MSS - Even though I have it, I'm not familiar enough with it to pick any other singles from it.

Interesting pick of "Loving Country". I love it as an album track but I don't know if it would have gone over well on the radio.

I think Right On might be the album in the entire Supremes discography that had the most potential singles, IMO.

I like their version of "Na Na", but as a single? Hmmm. It might have worked.

    "TNSUN"."There's No Stopping Us Now".
First, I'd remove the horn " bleep".
    McFadden and Whiteheads'
    "Ain't No Stopping Us Now"
is the sequel song to "TNSUN".
"TNSUN" is a great song to redo in a disco/club remix.

Great ending song for LP2 of the Greatest Hits Vol 1 by Diana Ross and Supremes.

The joyous “Na Na Hey Hey” would have made for the perfect followup single in keeping with the free spirited vibe of “Stoned Love”.
The song was a top five hit for UK group Bananarama in 83.

    So many great choices
I agree with most of all above.
Always loved Going Down For the Third Time
    Cant You See It's Me...
Both Love Child and Right On had plenty of choices.

Speculation can be fun, but there are only a few tracks that I assumed would go on to be singles and was shot down when they weren't. They are

    Then We Can Try Again
Together We Can Make Such Sweet Music
You're What's Missing In My Life.

The latter track was actually in the stage show and got FM airplay.

There were several single possibilities off Love Child. I hear no more singles on Cream Of The Crop or Jimmy Webb.

You may have a point. I think it might have been a winner for them.

"Keep An Eye" may have been a lost hit. I'm kind of surprised that it wasn't considered, as far as I know.

David I'm going to create a new thread on "He's All I Got". Interesting choice of single there.

Bayou I think all three of those held some hit potential, although I have more faith in the first two than "Missing". I love "You're What's Missing In My Life", though.

im puzzled to think of songs like Lvin in Shame and Composer as singles really ,..when some of these are far better songs and may have fared better

I get "Shame". Melodramatic as it was, and perhaps the closest the group had come to a novelty record since "Buttered Popcorn", I can understand the decision to release it as a single. And the fact that it did become a top 10 hit confirms it as a good idea, at least short term. But "The Composer"? Good grief. I love the song, I really do, but it's an album cut and nothing more. I don't hear it competing with anything out at that time. I'm amazed that it put up as good of numbers as it did, going top 30 pop and just missing the top 10 r&b. Cashbox placed it as the #21 best selling song on both the pop and r&b charts, and Record World placed it at #21 pop and an astonishing #11 r&b! I have no idea how it did this well considering there's no evidence they ever performed the song on television and as far as we know they didn't promote it in concert either. Now to be fair, lots of songs weren't performed on TV and still managed to hit, so maybe DJs heard something in this song that clicked. I just don't think it ever had a chance in getting anywhere near the top 10 and selling major copies, so what was the point? Especially when there were indeed better songs that the group could have had as singles at the time.
