    That Damned C word claims Sonny Turner of the Platters!

    He’d been battling throat cancer and sadly has passed at 83. Easily one of THE most underrated soul singers in the history of the genre and in the history of the Platters. May he and the rest of the Platters Rest in Power and Peace

    He will be remembered for the great With This Ring, a true Motown sounding song, by in large due to the Funk Brothers backing him up. Saw him a few years ago on the Malt Shop Cruise, still sounded great.

    I always thought if you listen to his vocal on "With This Ring" he really sounds close to a "Baby I Need Your Loving" Levi.
